Project Management

ARCHITECTURAL MANAGEMENT
Definitions:
What is meant by “risk”
The meaning of the term “risk” must be understood
clearly for effective project risk management. In
the context of a project, we are concerned about
potential impacts on project objectives such as
cost and time.
MANAGING PROJECT RISK
SOURCES OF RISKS:
Risks can come from various sources: e.g.,
uncertainty in financial markets, threats from
project failures (at any phase in design,
development, production, or sustainment life-
cycles), legal liabilities, credit risk,
accidents, natural causes and disasters as well
as deliberate attack from an adversary, or
events of uncertain or unpredictable root-cause.
STRATEGIES:
Strategies to manage threats (uncertainties
with negative consequences) typically include
-transferring the threat to another party,
-avoiding the threat,
-reducing the negative effect or probability
of the threat, or
-even accepting some or all of the potential
or actual consequences of a particular
threat, and the opposites for opportunities
(uncertain future states with benefits).
MANAGING SMALL PROJECTS
Introduction:
Small projects have unique challenges over larger
ones. Because they're small, it's tempting to skip
the planning process and start executing the
work. This phenomenon is especially true if projects
perform tasks similar to previous work, which in turn
leads to a natural tendency to skip planning and to
start doing the work.
Then, essential steps are sometimes omitted, done
out of order, or done later than desired.

MANAGING SMALL PROJECTS
A question whether the project management
best practices that are applicable for large
projects can be applied on smaller projects.
This is an important question and one which
all project managers must face up to when
managing small projects.
