RESIGNATION
RESIGNATION

• The term resignation refers to the act of quitting a job, or stepping


down from a public position, before the individual’s contract or term
is up. While resignation is normally voluntarily, there have been
instances in which employees felt they had no choice but to resign,
else they would face harsher consequences. This is fairly common
following a scandal, or some other problematic situation.
DISCHARGE
Discharge is the termination of the services of an employee but it is not done for the punishment purpose.

DISMISSAL
Dismissal refers to the act of terminating the employment of an employee by the employer in an organization.
Dismissal is sometimes also termed as firing or sacking. Depending on the reason of termination, there are two
types of dismissals – Fair dismissal and Unfair dismissal.

Suspension
A human resource practice, suspension is the practice in which an employee is not allowed to attend official
work and will also not be receiving any compensation during the period. Employees in an organization are
expected to adhere to the organization defined professional and ethical conduct, failing which he/she may be
subject to disciplinary actions that include demotion, dismissal or suspension.

Layoff

• Layoff or Downsizing refers to reducing the overall


size and operating costs of a company. It is mostly
done through reducing the total number of
employees in the company.
Layoff • It is mostly seen when the market conditions are
tight because than it’s a matter of survival for
companies. It has very unnerving and depressing
effects on the employees.
