 INTRODUCTION.
THE OBJECT OF THE ACT; TO INTRODUCE SOCIAL
INSURANCE BY PROVIDING FOR CERTAIN BENEFITS TO
EMPLOYEES IN CASE OF SICKNESS ,MATERNITY
,EMPLOYMENT INJURY AND FOR CERTAIN OTHER
MATTERS IN RELATION TO. THE ACT IS ONE OF
COMPULSORY STATE INSURANCE PROVIDING FOR
CERTAIN BENEFITS. THESE BENEFITS ARE SECURED BY
FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTION TO THE SCHEME BOTH BY
THE EMPLOYERS AND THE EMPLOYEES.
 THESE BENEFITS ARE;
1} SICKNESS BENEFITS.
2} MATERNITY BENEFITS.
3} DISABLEMENT BENEFITS.
4} DEPENDENTS BENEFITS.
5} MEDICAL BENEFITS.
6} FUNERAL BENEFITS.
Employee means any person employed; for wages in
or in connection with the work of a factory or
establishment to which this art applies ;
{1} who is directly employed by the principal employer on any work of, or incidental
or preliminary to or connected with the work of the factory of the establishment,
whether such work is done by the employee in the factory or establishment or
elsewhere.
{2} who is employed by or through and immediate employer on the premises of the
factory or establishment of under the supervision of principal employer or his agent
on work which is ordinarily part of the work of the factory or establishment or which
is preliminary to the work carried on in or incidental to the purpose of the factory or
establishment.
{3} whose service are temporarily lent or let on hire to the principal employer by the
person with whom the person whose service or so lent or let on hire as entered into a
contract of service

* THE SCOPE AND OBJECTIVE OF THE ACT:

THE OBJECT OF THE ACT IS TO PROVIDE RETIREMENT


OR OLD AGE BENEFITS SUCH AS PROVIDENT FUND,
SUPERANNUATION PENSION, INVALIDATION PENSION
BY THE INSTITUTION OF PROVIDENT FUNDS AND
FAMILY PENSION AND DEPOSIT-LINKED INSURANCE
SCHEMES FOR EMPLOYEES IN FACTORIES AND OTHER
ESTABLISHMENTS.

1} WITHDRAWAL BENEFITS.
A MEMBER CAN WITHDRAW THE FULL AMOUNT STANDING
TO HIS CREDIT IN THE FUND IN THE FOLLOWING
CIRCUMSTANCES IMMEDIATELY.
1} RETIREMENT AFTER ATTAINING THE AGE OF 55 YEARS.
2} RETIREMENT DUE TO INCAPACITY FOR WORK.
3} MIGRATION FROM INDIA FOR PERMANENT SETTLEMENT
ABROAD.
4} MASS RETRENCHMENT.
5} VOLUNTARY RETIREMENT.
6} CLOSURE OF ESTABLISHMENT.
7} TRANSFER TO AN ESTABLISHMENT NOT COVERED UNDER
THE ACT
 ASSURANCE BENEFIT TO WHOM PAYABLE ;

1} THE NOMINATION MADE BY AN EMPLOYEE UNDER EMPLOYEES PROVIDENT


FUNDS SCHEME ,1952 , OR UNDER THE PROVIDENT FUND EXEMPTED UNDER SECTION
17 OF THE ACT , AS THE CASE MAY BE , SHALL BE TREATED AS NOMINATION UNDER
THIS SCHEME AND THE ASSURANCE AMOUNT SHALL BECOME PAYABLE TO SUCH
NOMINEE OR NOMINEES.
2} IF NO NOMINATION SUBSISTS OR IF THE NOMINATION RELATES ONLY TO PART
OF THE AMOUNT STANDING TO HIS CREDIT IN THE FUND OR OF A PROVIDENT FUND
EXEMPTED UNDER SECTION 17 OF THE ACT , AS THE CASE MAY BE , THE WHOLE
AMOUNT OR THE PART THERE OF TO WHICH THE NOMINATION DOES NOT RELATE , AS
THE CASE MAY BE , SHALL BECOME PAYABLE TO THE MEMBERS OF HIS FAMILY IN EQUAL
SHARES;
{A} SONS WHO HAVE ATTAINED MAJORITY.
{B} SONS OF A DECEASED SON WHO HAVE ATTAINED MAJORITY.
{C} MARRIED DAUGHTERS WHOSE HUSBANDS ARE ALIVE.
{D} MARRIED DAUGHTERS OF A DECEASED SON WHOSE HUSBANDS ARE ALIVE.
3} IN ANY CASE TO WHICH THE PROVISIONS OF SUB –PARAGRAPHS 1 AND 2
DO DOT APPLY THE WHOLE AMOUNT SHALL BE PAYABLE TO THE PERSON LEGALLY
ENTITLED TO IT.
