WHAT IS GENETIC
STRUCTURALISM?
Genetic structuralism is a method of literature research
which relates between intristic (structuralism) and extrinsic
(sociologic) approach of a literary work.
Genetic structuralism comes after the human fact, which
consist of indidual subject and collective/transindividual
subject; and the concept of “vision du monde” or the world’s
vision.
Genetic structuralism is not considered as a pure theory
of literature research. Because genetic structuralism is a relation
/merge between the structure and the author of a concerned
literary work. (Endraswara 2003 : 55)
WHO INVENTED
THE THEORY OF GENETIC STRUCTURALISM?
Genetic structuralism was invented by Lucien Goldmann, a
romanianfrance philosopher and sociolog. He invented the theory in
1956, along with the publication of his book, “The Hidden God: a Study of
Tragic Vision in the Pensees of Pascal and the Tragedies of Racine”.
Genetic structuralism came after the dissatisfication of literature approach
in whether intrinsic and extrinsic without relating it, causing literature
works are considered separated from its social context.
Is the whole activity or human behavior, either verbal or physical,
which are trying to be examined in sciences knowledge. Goldman divides
it into two subjects, individual subject and collective/trans individual
subject.
Collective/transindividual Subject :
Collective subject is a part of human fact aside from individual
subject. Collective subject is a collection of individuals which form a unity
from its activity. Goldmann specifies it into a social class in marxism,
because, according to Goldmann, they’re the community whom had created
a complete view about human life, and had the influence in the
development of humankind.
