THE ALTERNATIVE WEEK 2019
Every year, in our school, there’s a special week between the two
school terms, during which we work about a topic. This year the
topic was “The four elements”, and we have connected it with the
climate. For example, we have made some banners, and we have
used them during the march for the climate,
that we did on 15th March.
THE COP21 OF PARIS
In December 2015, in Paris, 195 countries
adopted the first-ever universal, legally
binding global climate deal.
The agreement sets out a global action plan to put the world on
track to avoid dangerous climate change by limiting global warming
to levels below 2°C and pursuing efforts to limit it to 1.5°C.
The agreement entered into force on 4th November 2016.
GOVERNMENTS AGREED:
● on a long-term goal of keeping the increase in global average
temperature to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels;
● to aim to limit the increase to 1.5°C;
● on the need for global emissions to decrease as soon as
possible;
● to undertake rapid reductions thereafter in accordance with
the best available science.
THE FINANCING TO THE CLIMATE
ONU has made an international fund (Green Climate Fund) by
investing in low-emission and climate-resilient development.

The GFC has committed financings that amounted about 5 billions

of dollars.

This financings have avoided 1.5 billions of CO2 tons.

Thanks to Paris
agreement developed
countries intend to
continue their existing
collective goal to mobilise
USD 100 billion per year
by 2020 and extend this
until 2025. A new and
higher goal will be set for
after this period.
GRETA THUNBERG
Greta Thunberg was born on the
3rd January 2003 and she lives in
Sweden.
Both her parents and her
grandfather are important artists
of the Swedish cultural world and
Both Greta and her sister Beata,
have been diagnosed with autism and
other psychic disorders.
GRETA’S FOR THE CLIMATE
It’s very common that people with autism
spectrum have a special interest and Greta
found hers when she was nine years old. From
that year on she began researching climate
change and has stayed on the topic for six
years. When she was 15, Greta decided to begin
a school strike: she started spending each
Friday on the steps of Parliament in Stockholm.
This gave birth to a movement called “Fridays
for a Future” that organizes demonstrations like
the one of the last 15th March.
GRETA THUNBERG’s SPEECHES
She went to Katowice, to the Cop24 and to the World Economic Forum
of Davos, in Switzerland.
GRETA’S IMPORTANT QUOTES
“I want YOU TO ACT as our house was on fire, because it is!”

“I want you to panic!”

“You have to treat it as a crisis because it is!”

“I speak on behalf of climate justice now!”

“The only sensible thing to do is pull the emergency

break!”

“Maybe my sons will ask why you didn’t do anything

while there still was time to act.”
WHAT GRETA REPRESENTS TO US
Greta represents to
us an example to
follow and a point of
reference: she is
brave and determined
and with her example
she has inspired
millions of people to
act against climate
change.
15th CLIMATE DEMONSTRATION
On 15th March our class and
other third classes of our
school, went to Piazza
Garibaldi to demonstrate against
climate change. It was a
beautiful experience because we did
something even if we are young.
Unfortunately, we couldn’t
stay there all the time so we
listened only to two speeches
about the reason why we were
there and about the COP21
