• Survival rates can give you an idea of what percentage of people with
the same type and stage of cancer are still alive a certain amount of
time (usually 5 years) after they were diagnosed.
• A relative survival rate compares people with the same type and
stage of cancer to people in the overall population.
5-year relative survival rates for
osteosarcoma
Localized: There is no sign that the cancer has spread outside of the bone
where it started.
Regional: The cancer has spread outside the bone and into nearby structures,
or it has reached lymph nodes.
Distant: The cancer has spread to distant parts of the body, such as to the lungs
or to bones in other parts of the body.
Pada anak dan remaja
• The overall 5-year survival rate for children and teens with
osteosarcoma is 70%.
• If osteosarcoma is diagnosed and treated before it has spread outside
the area where it started, the general 5-year survival rate is between
60% to 80%. Osteosarcoma that has spread only to the lungs at the
time of diagnosis has a 5-year survival rate of approximately 40%. If
the cancer has spread somewhere else at the time of diagnosis, the 5-
year survival rate is between 15% and 30%.
