Introduction
 Controlling children is a matter of frequent headaches for many parents. There
is no mother who wants their children to grow up to be a failed and problematic
person. As a parent, children are God's trust to us to be well-established and
well-established.
 They were born like a pure white cloth without any flaws. parents who painted
and colored the white cloth with certain patterns and colors. In raising children,
various mistakes are made without us knowing. This error occurs due to lack of
knowledge on parenting aspects.
 In the process of controlling, children need to be reminded, control is not
through coercion but exemplary. Children are more likely to believe in what
they see than what they hear.
 While parents do not have to trick children from doing activities that are
beneficial to some parents, where they think it controls and restricts all the
activities that children do and it is definitely an understanding that wrong.
Introduction
 Modern way of life now necessarily affects all levels of society,
including children.
 These groups are vulnerable to the elements that infiltrate into their
daily lives primarily through the use of smartphones and the Internet
without control.
 Some of them will spend time playing online games and accessing
negative views on the phone. This situation leads to the existence of
other problems of free association and other social phenomena.
 Parents should therefore play an important role by constantly
monitoring their children's moves to prevent young people from
getting involved in social phenomena.
The Role of Parents in the
Development of Children's Self
 Children are part of an important asset to the nation as
they are the uplifters and will lead the country in the
future. If the children are broken, then the future of the
country will be destroyed.
 Parents should therefore take good care of the child so
that they can be capable of leading the nation fairly and
wisely and do not give full freedom to the children.
 Hence, there are some roles that parents should
implement in shaping their brilliant personality in
children.
Role : Spending Time with Children
 Children are part of an important
asset to the nation as they are the
uplifters and will lead the country in
the future. If the children are
broken, then the future of the
country will be destroyed.
 Parents should therefore take good
care of the child so that they can be
capable of leading the nation fairly
and wisely and do not give full
freedom to the children.
 Hence, there are some roles that
parents should implement in shaping
their brilliant personality in children.
Role : Supervision of Children
 In addition, parents should also
monitor the movement of children to
prevent them from doing what they
should not. As a rule, parents should
always ask their child about the
place to go if they want to come out
with friends.
 Parents also know that their
children's friends will not be friends
with those who can bring negative
influences.
 Parents should monitor children
when they use communication tools,
such as smartphones. This is said to
be because many children are
abusing technology to do what they
should not.
Role : Sharing the Problem
 In addition, every family member
should always share the problem.
Parents should always ask the
children's problems. Next, parents
need to help children solve the
problems they face.
 For example, parents can spend
some time helping children with
learning problems. Instead, children
need to understand the responsibility
and burden of their parents. Children
should always help parents make
homework to relieve their stress.
 With that, every member of the
family will feel themselves paid
attention by other family members.
Role : Provide Strong Spiritual Resources
 Parents also play a role to provide
strong spiritual resources to children.
This is because the greatest factor
that causes social symptoms among
the children is the lack or spiritually
fragile.
 This proves that spiritual is an
indispensable aspect in the effort to
shape the character of children and
prevent them from doing social
symptom activity.
 Religion is an individual choice but
all religions want the best of its
followers.
Role : Giving Education to Children
 At the same time, parents also play a
very important role in providing
knowledge to their children in order
to shape their personality and even
avoid them from social phenomena.
 Knowledge is very important to their
children through knowledge, children
will be able to distinguish good and
bad things in life.
 Therefore, parents need to provide
sufficient knowledge to shape the
character of children. The easiest
way is to send children to school.
Steps to Control Childhood
 Control over children can be classified into several types
and it is up to the parent to choose the style to be
practiced. However, the selection of these control styles
is often influenced by the culture of a particular place.
 Parents should not be too strict and at the same time not
be too tender in controlling children. Control and learning
style are very important in shaping children into excellent
and distinguished people (Norhaniyanti, 2010).
 There are therefore three steps that parents can take to
take control of their children.
Autoritative Controls
 Autoritative Controls are two factors that measure the level of control in each
type of control which is the level of escalation and accountability.
 For this control style, the factors controlling and responsible for children are
at a balanced level. Parents have a level of escort and rational responsibility.
Those who practice this type of control style are more democratic and
indirectly form responsible, positive-minded, competent, and active
socialists.
 The authoritative parents also give children a more self-reliant and wiser
place of bounds in their behavior. In addition, authoritative control styles
make "give and take" or "give and take as a key principle.
 Children born from this type of control of style have high self-esteem and
boldly express their opinions.
 Children who are raised by democratic (authoritative) parents tend to be
more energetic, adventurous, have high curiosity, dedication, self-control,
self-esteem and positive attitude toward peers (Baumrind, 1989).
Autoritarian Controls
 The Autoritarian Method is where children who demonstrate behavior
rebellious, worried, vindictive, shy, anxious and less motivated are
the result of authoritarian control styles. Their parents have high
control but very low level of responsibility shown. Their children have
self-confidence and the nature of their very low self-reliance.
 This control style does not instantly give children the freedom to do
what they love. This high controlling factor will cause the children to
follow their parents' instructions without thinking and eventually
make them passive.
 Based on Bee and Boyd (2002), this authoritative parenting style
illustrates the negative effects on the child's self-concept as children
will have weak social skills, become too aggressive or too passive and
have an uncertain mood.
Permissive Controls
 Permissive control is where a pessimist parent will show a low level of
control over a high level of responsibility. They are very friendly with
their children until there is no limit to the respect of parents and
children. Children born from families who practice this control style
are more impulsive and have extreme demand.
 They are said to be less explored, less self-reliant and show off the
tendency to be free or can not control themselves. Parents who
practice this manipulation control style are too spoiled by their
children.
 Lack of parental control also leads to aggressive behavior of children
and fails in schooling during childhood. They are often associated with
various social problems such as free sex, alcohol consumption and
childhood drug abuse.
Conclusion
 Based on the study conducted by Stern and Smith (1995), the majority
of juvenile offenders were raised through a control pattern of
rejection from their parents. Children who have a good degree of
control from their parents are less likely to engage in unhealthy
activities.
 However, the external factors that exist in ours can not be denied to
influence the behavior of children. Among the factors that are said to
be a strong influence on adolescent behavior is the environment.
 Indeed, the role of parents in shaping children's personalities is huge
and important. If it is well-crafted then the canvas can be beautiful
and beautiful, if it is plastered and bad then it is the pattern.
 In summary, parental plea statements have no right to control their
children's lives are irrelevant and it is impossible to do so in today's
increasingly challenging environment.
