Triggered Thyristors and Integrated Overload Protection

Project description
 Static Var Compensation (SVC) 45 MVAr with
Direct Light Triggered Thyristor (LTT)

Innovations
 Light pulse for triggering is applied directly to the LTT
 Laser diodes used for generating the triggering power
 LTT does not have internal gate contacts
 LTT does not need auxiliary energy
 Thyristor protection is integrated in the LTT
(overvoltage protection)

Customer benefits
 Much less vulnerable to electromagnetic interference
 Improved overvoltage protection
 Significant reduction of components on high voltage
 Longer life time of the valve towers
