Peraturan 6 : Kebenaran Memasang Lif
Document to be submitted for approval :-
- dimensions & particulars of as shown in First Schedule
- drawings showing the following particulars
a. size & position of lift well
b. particulars of lift well enclosure
c. size, position, number & type of landing door
d. size & position of machine room
e. provision of access to machine room
f. provision for ventilation
g. number of floors served by lift
h. height between floor levels
I. Number of entrances
j. total headroom
k. height of machine room
l. depth of lift pit

 Peraturan 7 : Bebanan Lif dan Muatan

 Tiap-tiap lif hendaklah direkabentuk dan dibina untuk membawa beban

kontraknya seperti Susunan 1.

Peraturan 8 : Mesin Lif dan ‘support’
 two type of drive, traction and drum drive
 traction drive;
– gearless
– geared ; i ) worm and gear ii) helical gear
Peraturan 9 : Bilik Mesin
Every machine room shall be :-
a. designed to carry a load not less than 100 Ibs/sq.ft.
b. a minimum distance 18” between any part of the machine and
adjoining wall
c. weather proof, dry and adequately ventilated
d. have a clear height not less than 6’ 6” from the floor or not less 2’ 6”
above the highest point of the lift machine if installed on pedestal on
the floor
e. provided with permanent electric lighting (illumination > 10 foot
candle) and at least one socket & plug
f. Not used for the storage of articles or material
g. Locked against un-authorised access

Sub-paragraphs (a), (b) and (d) not apply to machine for dumbwaiter
Peraturan 10 : Lubang Lif
1) No piping, conduct or equipment shall be installed
2) No room passage or thoroughfare shall be permitted under lift well
3) To provide a continuous screen from top to bottom of the if the
counterweight of one lift travels close to the car of an adjacent lift
4) Not more than 4 lifts shall be located in any one lift well
5) a. shall be soundly constructed
b. Vertical clearance not less than 2 feet between any fitting attached
to the bottom of the car frame and the pit floor when the buffer is
fully compressed.
c. clear floor area to permit a person lie on the pit floor
6) Depth of lift pit greater than 3’ 6’’ (from bottom terminal landing) – to
provide footholds and handholds to aid ingress and egress
7) Access shall be only from bottom terminal landing
8) Guard shall be fixed around the path of the counterweight - extend from
the height not more 12” above lift pit floor to a height of not less than 6’
6”
Peraturan 11 : Litup Lubang Lif
 extend on all sides throughout the height of lift well
 made of brickwork or other suitable fire resisting materials if lift
travel greater than 40 feet above ground floor
 clearance between edge of the landing threshold and car
platform nosing – ½ < x <1 inches
 clearance with loading side of the car platform shall :-
- for passenger lift : < 5 inches
- for goods lift ( vertical sliding hoistway door : < 7 ½ inches
 clearance between the sides of the car or counterweight and lift
well enclosure > 1 inches
 No opening to access the car by passing under a counterweight
 If wire grille or similar construction used as enclosure, mesh
(opening) not greater than 1 ¼ inches
 Any glazing lift well enclosure shall be toughened or shatter-
proof glass
Peraturan 12 : Pintu Lataran
 height shall not be less than :-
- for passenger lift : 6 feet and ’ 6 inches
- for goods lift : 6 feet
 distance between lift well side of landing door and the edge of landing
threshold shall not be greater than :-
- for hinged doors : 4 inches
- for sliding doors : 2 ¾ inches
 can be open manually in the event of power failure
 vision panel :-
- shall be provided for hinged landing door; and also for manual &
self- closing landing door for lift with automatic control except car
position indicator is provided
- area of any single vision panel > 25 sq.in and
total area of one or more in any landing door < 80 sq.in
- the centre of panel located at 54 ” < x < 66 ” of the landing
Peraturan 13 : Landing Door Locking Devices

 Every landing door shall be fitted with

electromechanical door lock to ensure that :-
- lift cannot be moved unless every landing
door is closed and locked
- any landing door being open the car will
come to rest
- no landing door can be open from landing
side unless the car is rest at particular
landing or with special key
Peraturan14 : Pembinaan Lif Kar

 Lift comprise : a platform, roof, car enclosure,

door and supporting frame
 Design safety factor (sf)
car platform : for steel : sf not less than 5
timber : sf not less than 8
 Guide shoe : at top & bottom of both sides of
with roller car frame
 Car roof : support load - 200 Ibs.
 Car enclosure : height > 6 ft 6 inches

Peraturan 15 : Car Doors and Gates
Height of car doors or gates :-
-passenger lift : not less than 6 ft & 6 inches
-goods lift : not less than 6 ft
No lift car shall have more than two entrance
Provided with an electric switch to prevent the lift car
being started or kept in motion unless all gates and
doors are closed
Power operated car door or gate shall be capable of
being opened manually
Designed that it’s closure is not likely to injured any
person
Peraturan 16 : Emergency hatches

 Side emergency hatch

- direct transfer from one car to other
- distance between the car platforms < 2 ft 6 in
- hinged type and open only into the car
- provide with lock from :
- inside by special key
- outside by non removable handle
- fitted with car door electric contact
- same material & construction as required for
the car enclosure

Peraturan 16 : Emergency hatches
 Top emergency hatch
- passage way at the top of a lift car
- hinged or otherwise attached to the lift car top
- open outwards
- can be open from the top of the car only

 Keys for emergency hatches

- kept in premises by responsible person for the
maintenance and operation of lift car
Peraturan 17 : Ventilation

Adequate permanent ventilation for lift car

Where ventilating fans or blower are used
- securely fastened in place and located
above the car ceiling or outside the car
enclosure
Peraturan 18 : Cahaya
 At least two lamps in each car
 Light bulbs and tubes shall be guarded
 Min. illumination at landing edge of car
platform when car & landing doors are
open > 5 foot candles
Peraturan 19 : Am
 Only thoughened or shatterproof glass shall be
used in any car
 Every car shall be provided with :
- emergency signal (outside the lift well)
- lighting socket (on top and underneath)
- emergency switch (on top)
 Peraturan 20 – Counter-weight
- Every traction drive shall be provided with
counterweight

 to provide traction and to balance

the weight of the car
 Peraturan 21 – Guides
- Every lift car and counterweight shall be
guided throughout its travel
Peraturan 22 : Safety Gear
 Every lift car shall be provided with one or more safety gear
 At least one safety gear shall be located within or below the
lower member of the car frame

Peraturan 23 : Governors
 Shall be fitted for lift car having a travel between
terminal landings greater than 20 feet
 To cause application of the safety gear :
for lift car
- at a speed not less than 15% above the contract
speed and not more than max. tripping speed
for counterweight
- at a speed greater than that at which the car
safety gear is applied but not more than 10%
 Governor rope size should be not less than 8 mm
 GOVERNOR

 cut off the control circuit and activate

the safety gear
Peraturan 24 : Buffers
 Shall be installed under every car and counterweight
 If contract speed
> 75 ft/min - solid buffer shall not be installed
> 200 ft/min - spring buffer shall not be installed
 the suitablity of buffer stroke depending upon the
application of contract speed
Peraturan 25 : Clearances and over-travels
for lift car and counter-weight

 Top clearances and bottom over travel for lift car

and counterweight where spring, timber and
similar buffers are used

Peraturan 26 : Terminal stopping devices

Every lift shall be provided with stopping

devices :
a. upper and lower normal terminal
-to stop car automatically at or near
the upper and lower terminal landings.
b. upper and lower final terminal
-double protection to stop car if the
upper or normal terminal stopping
devices fail to operate correctly
Peraturan 27 : Suspension rope

 Steel suspensions rope with diameter > 9.5 mm

 Traction drive lift – not less than 3 ropes
 Drum –drive lift – not less than 2 ropes
 Safety factor of rope
- 10 for contract speed less than 107 m/min
- 12 for contract speed more than 107 m/min
Peraturan 28 : Operation and control

 Every drum drive lift shall be provided with a

slackrope switch
 No emergency switch for short circuiting the
landing door shall be provided in any lift car
 Lift car shall not be permitted to start or run if
any landing door, interlock of any landing door
or car door is in open position
 The interruption of electric circuit shall
prevent the movement of the car

counter-weights, etc

 Peraturan 30 : Ujian
Every new lift shall be tested before it is input
into service

 Peraturan 31 : Kewajipan-Kewajipan
Pemunya
 Pemunya lif hendaklah menentukan supaya lif tersebut
disenggara.
 Pemeriksaan dan penyelenggaraan berkala hendaklah
dilakukan oleh firma yang kompeten.
 Lif hendaklah:
- Diperiksa setiap 3 bulan sekali oleh orang yang
kompeten menggunakan borang jadual kedua
- dirawat dan dilaras sekali pada tiap-tiap bulan
 Perjanjian penyelenggaraan hendaklah selama tempoh tidak
kurang dari satu tahun.
 Rekod pemeriksaan hendahlah disimpan dan dikemukan untuk
diperiksa oleh Pemeriksa pada tiap-tiap kali pemeriksaan biasa
lif dan pada bila-bila masa diminta.

Peraturan 31 : Kewajipan-Kewajipan
Pemunya
 Hendaklah:
- lubang dan liang lif itu diselenggara dalam keadaan
bersih, kering dan tiada sampah-sampah;
- bahan-bahan yang tidak menjadi sebahagian daripada
kelengkapan lif tidak diletakkan di atas bumbung lif kar;
- lif itu tidak dikendali dengan lebih daripada beban
kontrak;
- sesuatu lif yang lain daripada lif kendalian automatik, lif
itu tidak dikendali melainkan di bawah jagaan seorang
atendan yang tidak berumur kurang daripada 18 tahun;
- apa-apa pesawat membawa dawai atau arus tidak
diguna sebagai peganti fius atau pemutus litar yang
sepatutnya dalam sesuatu litar kawalan lif.
Peraturan 32 : Pemberitahu

 Pemunya hendaklah menampal perakuan pendaftaran lif

dalam lif kar atau berdampingan dengan lataran terminal
bawah.
 Pemunya hendaklah menampal pemberitahu seperti:
- nama dan no telefon orang yand dikehendaki
dihubungi sekiranya berlaku apa-apa kerosakan pada lif
di lataran tingkat bawah;
- disebelah dalam lif kar mengarah penumpang-
penumpang membunyikan loceng kecemasan sekiranya
berlaku apa-apa kerosakan pada lif
