COMPANY:SHANTI NAGAR BMTC WORKSHO

BANGALORE 560027
OBJECTIVES

 to study the organisation structure ,span of management

authority .
 to know the organisation culture
 to understand the functioning of each dept
 managerial skills
 to provide meaningful work experience that can be related to
the academics
 to identify the problem areas and submit report or
suggestions wherever necessary
ABOUT THE COMPANY
 Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC)
is a government agency that operates the public transport
bus service in Bangalore.
 It was founded in 1997
 It has special service apart from ordinary service run by
BMTC that are Suvarna, BIG Circle, Atal Sarige, Vajra,
Vayu Vajra etc
Main components of bus
1. ENGINE
2. CLUTCH
3. TRANSMISSION
4. BRAKE SYSTEM
ENGINE
 Engine is a device which converts one form energy to
another form of energy
 There are two types of engines
External combustion engine
Internal combustion engine
THE PARTS OF THE ENGINE ARE
• ENGINE BLOCK
 PISTON
 CRANKSHAFT
 DAMPER PULLEY
 CAMSHAFT
 FUEL INJECTION PUMP
 AIR COMPRESSOR
 OIL FILTER
 INTAKE MANIFOLD
 EXHAUST MANIFOLD
 TURBOCHARGER
 VALVES
 WATER PUMP
 RADIATOR
 STARTER
 ALTERNATOR
 FAN
 FLYWHEEL

CLUTCH

FIG.2 DISASSEMBLE OF CLUTCH

CLUTCH

Clutches are mechanical devices for engaging and disengaging engine and transmission
system
When your foot is off the pedal, the springs push the pressure plate against the clutch
disc, which in turn presses against the flywheel. This locks the engine to the transmission
input shaft, causing them to spin at the same speed.
TRANSMISSION
GEAR BOX
PROPELLER SHAFT

 GEAR BOX
 Gear box is used to change the speed and
torque of the vehicle according variety of
road and load condition .A gear box changes
the engine speed into torque and. Sometime it
is known as a torque convertor
PROPELLER SHAFT

 A drive shaft, driveshaft, driving shaft, propeller shaft (prop shaft),

or Cardin shaft is a mechanical component for transmitting torque and
rotation, usually used to connect other components of a drive train that
cannot be connected directly because of distance or the need to allow for
relative movement between them.
 To allow for variations in the alignment and distance between the driving
and driven components, drive shafts frequently incorporate one or
more universal joints, jaw couplings, or rag joint, and sometimes a splined
joint or prismatic joint.
TURBO CHARGER

Fig.3 Complete assembly of turbo charger

Turbocharger is a type of forced induction system.

They compress the air flowing in to the engine.
WORKING OF TURBOCHARGER

Exhaust air from the cylinder is passed to turbo

charger before going into environment , air will flow
on turbine blades this makes the shaft to rotate, and
this shaft is connected to compressor blades while
rotating turbine compressor also rotates, due to this it
sucks the air from the atmosphere .
The turbocharger stores polluted air before releasing
air to atmosphere and hence reduces pollution.

SUGGESTION & RECOMMENDATION

 The current infrastructure is insufficient to meet the increasing work

demand.

 Safety for workers is insufficient

 Emphasis must be given on cleanliness and proper drainage system in

the workshop premises.

 Space management may be improved further

CONCLUSION/TAKE AWAYS

 What a company or an organisation is and how it works

 Working atmosphere in the company

 How a company tries to acheive a goal or success by setting various rules ,standards and techniques

 Various technologies, system and machines employed by the company ,how they run, different processes
,approval and completion of various projects in a given stipulated time

 How the company is benefitting itself and also the society

DIFFERENTIAL (CROWN)
 Wheels spin at different speeds, especially when turning. Each wheel travels a
different distance through the turn, and that the inside wheels travel a shorter
distance than the outside wheels. Since speed is equal to the distance traveled
divided by the time it takes to go that distance, the wheels that travel a shorter
distance travel at a lower speed
Differential Operation
 Now let’s see how the differential manages to rotate the side gears (drive wheels) at
different speeds as demanded by different driving scenarios.
 The vehicle moves straight
 In this case, the spider gear rotates along with the ring gear but does not rotate on its
own axis. So the spider gear will push and make both the side gears turn, and both will
turn at the same speed. In short, when the vehicle moves straight, the spider-side gear
assembly will move as a single solid unit.
BRAKE SYSTEM

AIR BRAKE
 An air brake or, more formally, a compressed air brake system, is a type of friction brake
for vehicles in which compressed air pressing on a piston is used to apply the pressure to
the brake pad needed to stop the vehicle. Air brakes are used in large heavy vehicles,
particularly those having multiple trailers which must be linked into the brake system, such
as trucks, buses, trailers, and semi-trailers in addition to their use in railroad trains.
STEERING SYSTEM

 The steering system converts the rotation of the steering wheel into a swiveling
movement of the road wheels in such a way that the steering-wheel rim turns a long
way to move the road wheels a short way.
 At the base of the steering column there is a worm gear inside a box. A worm is a
threaded cylinder like a short bolt. Imagine turning a bolt which holding a nut on it;
the nut would move along the bolt. In the same way, turning the worm moves anything
fitted into its thread.
BODY DESIGN

 CHASIS FRAME AND BODY

Chassis frame is the basic frame work of the automobile. It supports
all the parts of the automobile attached to it. It is made of drop forged steel.
All the parts related to automobiles are attached to it only. All the systems
related to automobile like power plant, transmission, steering, suspension,
braking system etc. are attached to and supported by it only.
