2 Dimensional Shapes (2D)
Two-dimensional shapes
that have sides made
from straight lines.
They have two
dimensions – length and
width.
Example : triangles
squares
hexagons
Square
Two dimensional shape
with 4 sides of the same
length and four 90°
angles.
Rectangle
A four sided two-
dimensional shape with
two pairs of parallel sides
that meet at right angles.
Pentagon
A two-dimensional shape
with five straight sides
and five angles.
Hexagon
A two-dimensional shape
with 6 straight sides and
6 angles.
Heptagon
A two-dimensional shape
with 7 straight sides and
7 angles.
Octagon
A two-dimensional shape
with 8 straight sides and
8 angles.
Circle
A round flat two-
dimensional shape.
Triangle
Two-dimensional shape
with three straight sides
and three angles.
Three-dimensional Shapes (3D)
These shapes are solid or
hollow.
They have three
dimensions – length,
width and height.
Surface
Part of a shape that is flat
or curved.
E.g. A cube has 6
surfaces.
Edge
The line where two
surfaces meet.
E.g. A cube has 12 edges.
Vertex (Vertices)

The place where three or

more edges meet.
This cube has 8 vertices.
Cube
Surface : 6 surfaces
Edge : 12 edges
Vertex : 8 vertices
Cuboid

Surface : 6 surfaces
Edge : 12 edges
Vertex : 8 vertices
Sphere
Surface : 1 (curved
surface)
Edge : 0 edge
Vertex : 0 vertex
Cone
Surface : 2 (1 curved surface
& 1 flat surface)
Edge : 1 edge
Vertex : 1 vertex
Cylinder
Surface : 3 (2 flat surfaces
& 1 curved surface)
Edge : 2 edges
Vertex : 0 vertex
Pyramid
Surface : 5 surfaces
Edge : 8 edges
Vertex : 5 vertices
