University in Adapted Physical
Education in the City of
Mandaluyong
Introduction
Adapted Physical Education or APE is a
program that focuses on addressing the need of
PWD’s in Physical Education. Adapted Physical
Education is created to aid the lack of Physical

disability so they can still be fit even with the
disability their experiencing.
Practice of Adapted Physical Education is predicated
on the belief that each student has the ability and a
desire to move, to be active, and to participate
meaningfully with peers. Adapted Physical Education
also believes the all children even with disability shall
experience the joy of sports and other physical
activities. Adapted Physical Education promotes that
Children with disability should also be given fair
attention concerning physical education in order to
promote individual growth and give opportunity to
unlock their potential.
Adapted Physical Education concerns the fulfillment
of physical education need of children with disability it
also promotes traits like sportsmanship and further
improve socializing skills and self-esteem. Adapted

each student actively participates in physical
education programs at his or her own level and that
the student is integrated into the regular education
program whenever possible.
Adapted physical programs apply in specific physical
and motor difficulties of students, along with other
assistance and socialization. In an adapted physical
program every student has been evaluated for their
physical abilities, his motor skills, personal medical and
educational history and has designed a personalized
program of kinetic therapy. The individualized programs
take into account the psychological state of the student,
and the attitudes and perceptions towards disability.
This creates personal goals, which are divided into
short and long term.
The purpose of Adapted Physical Activity contributes in the
physical and movement development of students with special
educational needs, in their mental and cognitive/intellectual
culture, in the growth of personality and in their harmonious
integration in their society. Adapted Physical Education improves
the three domains the Cognitive, Affective and the psychomotor.

coordination of some children with physical activities by this
children becomes more active and less scared of what other will
think of them. The role of the Adapted Physical Education at all
levels of education of students with special needs is important
and multidimensional.
Statement of the Problem
The study seeks to answer the question, “Perception of
Physical Education Faculty in Adapted Physical
Education”.
Specifically, it aims to answer the following questions:
1. What is the profile of the respondents according to
their:
1.1Gender
1.2Age
1.3Year of Working Experience
2. What is the perception of Physical Education faculty
in adapted physical education?
3. What is Adapted Physical Education as a
profession?
4. What are the benefits of Physical Education or
physical activity to PWD?
5. Should we have an adapted physical education
in Mandaluyong City? Why?
6. Is there a significant relationship between
perceived benefits of Adapted Physical Education
and the profile of respondents?
Significance of the Study
IPE Student This study will help them understand the
situations of PWDs, this also will help them understand the
concept of Adapted Physical Education, and because our
study will show the importance APE and they can use this
as additional knowledge if they want to pursue teaching in
Sped.
Professor/ Teachers Professors are one of the
benefactors and the main protagonist of our research. In
our research the professor will gain some information about
the significant of having an APE program, they’ll get
knowledge how to cope up with Sped students if they plan
to teach.
Community The community is the greatest benefactor of
this research to the point it is the reason of this thesis,
simply because this thesis is about having a program that
promotes and prioritizes the PWD or sped students in the
community. It can greatly help PWD and sped students to
be active by using some recreational games
IPE institute The IPE institute is one of the benefactors
to consider, through this research the IPE faculty or Institute
can improve some aspects of teaching and this can create
opportunity to teachers/professors from IPE to enable
themselves to teaching Adapted Physical Education to IPE
students and it can help the Institute on promoting and
innovating different curriculum for the improvement and
development of the IPE course.
Future Researcher The Future researcher is one of the
benefactors of this research, through this research future
researchers can learn and get ideas on this thesis to the
extent they can even use this as their own thesis, they can
also use this to gain further understanding about APE and
they can also continue or even improve this research and help
promoting the APE program
Scopes and the Limitations
On our research we would like to know the
thoughts and opinion of the IPE faculty about
APE and having an APE program, by asking them
several questions. It is also limited only for the
faculty members of the IPE department. The
respondents are 10 chosen faculty/ professors of
IPE.
Research Method Used
The Qualitative Research is primarily exploratory
research. It is used to gain an understanding of
underlying reasons, opinions, and motivations. It
provides insights into the problem or helps to develop
ideas or hypotheses for potential quantitative research.
Qualitative Research is also used to uncover trends in
thought and opinions, and dive deeper into the
problem. (Snap surveys, 2010).
The researchers will use a qualitative approach
under the descriptive method. Descriptive method is
use to acquire the information covering the current
status of the subject of the study to describe what
exist with respect to variables and conditions of
what being studied. (Solomon, 2010)
The Survey method is the technique of gathering data
by asking questions to people who are thought to have
desired information. A formal list of questionnaire is
prepared. The respondents are asked questions on their
demographic interest opinion.(MSG,2017)This method
will choose for the study to gather relevant information.
According to (Howsam 2015) descriptive method defines
a systematic procedure, technique, or mode of inquiry
employed by or proper to a particular discipline or art.
Population Frame and Sampling Scheme

The population frame will be the IPE faculty of Rizal

Technological University SY 2017-2018.The total numbers of
respondents will be use in this study are ten (10) regular Physical
Education professors.
The researchers will use the non-probability sampling
technique which is purposive sampling. Purposive sampling is a
technique widely used in qualitative research for the identification
and selection of information-rich cases for the most effective use
of limited resources (Patton, 2002). This involves identifying and
selecting individuals or groups of individuals that are especially
knowledgeable about or experienced with a phenomenon of
interest (Cresswell & Plano Clark, 2011).
Research Instrument Used
The researchers will use a questionnaire as the
instrument of the study.
The researchers will use a researcher made
questionnaires for the respondents that consist of 2
parts. The first part consists of the description of the
respondents which are the following, age, gender, and
the years of working experience. Part two will cover ten
(10) questions that will be asked to gain information.
We will choose the expert (s) to validate our
instrument to help us to improve or to have a better
study by giving their suggestions and comments.
