University in Adapted Physical Education in the City of Mandaluyong Introduction Adapted Physical Education or APE is a program that focuses on addressing the need of PWD’s in Physical Education. Adapted Physical Education is created to aid the lack of Physical activities given or provided to PWD’s because of their disability through this program children with disability can enjoy sports and other physical activity just like other kids do. Adapted Physical Education is a service provided to some school that promote equality and create opportunity for Children with disability to enjoy sports and other physical activity. Adapted Physical Education is a given curriculum in other country that promotes Physical Activity for Children with disability so they can still be fit even with the disability their experiencing. Practice of Adapted Physical Education is predicated on the belief that each student has the ability and a desire to move, to be active, and to participate meaningfully with peers. Adapted Physical Education also believes the all children even with disability shall experience the joy of sports and other physical activities. Adapted Physical Education promotes that Children with disability should also be given fair attention concerning physical education in order to promote individual growth and give opportunity to unlock their potential. Adapted Physical Education concerns the fulfillment of physical education need of children with disability it also promotes traits like sportsmanship and further improve socializing skills and self-esteem. Adapted physical education programs strive to ensure that each student actively participates in physical education programs at his or her own level and that the student is integrated into the regular education program whenever possible. Adapted physical programs apply in specific physical and motor difficulties of students, along with other assistance and socialization. In an adapted physical program every student has been evaluated for their physical abilities, his motor skills, personal medical and educational history and has designed a personalized program of kinetic therapy. The individualized programs take into account the psychological state of the student, and the attitudes and perceptions towards disability. This creates personal goals, which are divided into short and long term. The purpose of Adapted Physical Activity contributes in the physical and movement development of students with special educational needs, in their mental and cognitive/intellectual culture, in the growth of personality and in their harmonious integration in their society. Adapted Physical Education improves the three domains the Cognitive, Affective and the psychomotor. Doing Adapted Physical Activity can improve movement and coordination of some children with physical activities by this children becomes more active and less scared of what other will think of them. The role of the Adapted Physical Education at all levels of education of students with special needs is important and multidimensional. Statement of the Problem The study seeks to answer the question, “Perception of Physical Education Faculty in Adapted Physical Education”. Specifically, it aims to answer the following questions: 1. What is the profile of the respondents according to their: 1.1Gender 1.2Age 1.3Year of Working Experience 2. What is the perception of Physical Education faculty in adapted physical education? 3. What is Adapted Physical Education as a profession? 4. What are the benefits of Physical Education or physical activity to PWD? 5. Should we have an adapted physical education in Mandaluyong City? Why? 6. Is there a significant relationship between perceived benefits of Adapted Physical Education and the profile of respondents? Significance of the Study IPE Student This study will help them understand the situations of PWDs, this also will help them understand the concept of Adapted Physical Education, and because our study will show the importance APE and they can use this as additional knowledge if they want to pursue teaching in Sped. Professor/ Teachers Professors are one of the benefactors and the main protagonist of our research. In our research the professor will gain some information about the significant of having an APE program, they’ll get knowledge how to cope up with Sped students if they plan to teach. Community The community is the greatest benefactor of this research to the point it is the reason of this thesis, simply because this thesis is about having a program that promotes and prioritizes the PWD or sped students in the community. It can greatly help PWD and sped students to be active by using some recreational games IPE institute The IPE institute is one of the benefactors to consider, through this research the IPE faculty or Institute can improve some aspects of teaching and this can create opportunity to teachers/professors from IPE to enable themselves to teaching Adapted Physical Education to IPE students and it can help the Institute on promoting and innovating different curriculum for the improvement and development of the IPE course. Future Researcher The Future researcher is one of the benefactors of this research, through this research future researchers can learn and get ideas on this thesis to the extent they can even use this as their own thesis, they can also use this to gain further understanding about APE and they can also continue or even improve this research and help promoting the APE program Scopes and the Limitations On our research we would like to know the thoughts and opinion of the IPE faculty about APE and having an APE program, by asking them several questions. It is also limited only for the faculty members of the IPE department. The respondents are 10 chosen faculty/ professors of IPE. Research Method Used The Qualitative Research is primarily exploratory research. It is used to gain an understanding of underlying reasons, opinions, and motivations. It provides insights into the problem or helps to develop ideas or hypotheses for potential quantitative research. Qualitative Research is also used to uncover trends in thought and opinions, and dive deeper into the problem. (Snap surveys, 2010). The researchers will use a qualitative approach under the descriptive method. Descriptive method is use to acquire the information covering the current status of the subject of the study to describe what exist with respect to variables and conditions of what being studied. (Solomon, 2010) The Survey method is the technique of gathering data by asking questions to people who are thought to have desired information. A formal list of questionnaire is prepared. The respondents are asked questions on their demographic interest opinion.(MSG,2017)This method will choose for the study to gather relevant information. According to (Howsam 2015) descriptive method defines a systematic procedure, technique, or mode of inquiry employed by or proper to a particular discipline or art. Population Frame and Sampling Scheme
The population frame will be the IPE faculty of Rizal
Technological University SY 2017-2018.The total numbers of respondents will be use in this study are ten (10) regular Physical Education professors. The researchers will use the non-probability sampling technique which is purposive sampling. Purposive sampling is a technique widely used in qualitative research for the identification and selection of information-rich cases for the most effective use of limited resources (Patton, 2002). This involves identifying and selecting individuals or groups of individuals that are especially knowledgeable about or experienced with a phenomenon of interest (Cresswell & Plano Clark, 2011). Research Instrument Used The researchers will use a questionnaire as the instrument of the study. The researchers will use a researcher made questionnaires for the respondents that consist of 2 parts. The first part consists of the description of the respondents which are the following, age, gender, and the years of working experience. Part two will cover ten (10) questions that will be asked to gain information. We will choose the expert (s) to validate our instrument to help us to improve or to have a better study by giving their suggestions and comments.
