What is a Discovery Workshop?

Validate if and how the client’s challenges are solved by our Software Defined
Infrastructure solutions:
What is the current state ? What is the future state ? Is it feasible? Is it worth it?

This is up to a two-day solution development exercise

• Led by team of IBM “Software Defined Infrastructure” experts
• IBM provides a summary session and documentation of findings and
recommendations
• Results aim at reducing risk for both parties, and identifying the main potential issues
to be managed from the start

Answer the Key Questions

Choosing a path forward

• What is the impact for your business initiatives ?

– Revenue, cost, risk, TTM
• What are realistic user expectations?
– Meeting the users’ need for compute utilization, workload management and data movement
• How do we develop a workable architecture and implementation plan?
• How will a solution fit with other technologies & processes
– e.g. – High Performance Analytics, MapReduce, Hadoop, Application Frameworks, etc.
• How do we determine total cost of ownership (TCO) associated with a new solution
• What will be the value of an software defined based solution?

What Gets Achieved in the Workshop

• Define, Validate & Decide

– Achieve the organization's business objectives with the
least risk
– Know the total cost of ownership (TCO) of the solution
before it is implemented – are there hidden costs?
– What is the potential return on investment (ROI) and how
can it be measured?
– Get a solution that fits the business vs. forcing the
business to fit the solution
• What is the flexibility of the solution?
– Implement a solution that works and is usable –
• Will the compute utilization, workload management and data
movement analytical capabilities provide the right level of
support?
