INTRODUCTION
• Al-Quran has declared itself to be a guide book (hudan) which can lead mankind to the right path
• Beside that, another functions as an explanation (Tibyan) for everything and different (furqon) between and
falsehood.

• The advanced age phase in human development is a phase of decline from the peak of human might, from
babies developing to the peak maturity with excellent physical streth, then decrease as old age. This can be
understood from the journey of life humans as describe by surah Gafir [40]: 6

[40:67] He Who created you from dust, then from a sperm drop, then from a clot, then He
brings you forth as a child, then that you may attain your maturity, then further that you become
elders. And among who is taken in death before, so that you reach a specified term and
perhaps you will use reason
.
Like humans and wise, of course we don't may be negligent with worldly affairs, especially for those
who have entered the advanced phase, because there are many that we have to prepare well dhohir
and inner. As the word of God in Q.S. Yasin [36] verse: 68.

And to whom We grant long life We reverse in creation; so will they not
understand?

who's been extended his age to old age will be returned to be weak like original state. The situation is
characterized by hair that begins to turn white, vision begins to blur, glazed hearing fades, teeth begin
falling, the skin begins to wrinkle, the steps have been shaken.
In the Qur'an, the terms used relating to the advanced phase for humans are: al-kibar, ash-
shuyukh (ash-shaykh), al-ajuz, tala / arzal al-umur.
Al-kibar from kabira, yakbaru, kaibar and makbir 'means that they are old, (ta' anafi as-
sinn), used for humans and creeping animals (dawabb). The word al-kibar is found in surah Al-
Baqarah [2]: 266, Ali 'imra [3]: 40. Ibrahim [14]: 39, Al-Hijr [15]: 54, al-Isra' [17]: 23, Maryam [19]: 8.
At these verses are al-kibar and their derivatives it means elderly people, namely elderly garden
owners (Al-Baqarah [2]: 266), God's way of giving news to the elderly Prophet Ibrahim (al-Hijr [15]:
54), and adab to one or both elderly parents (al-Isra '[17]: 23)
Ash-Shaykh according to Al-Qomus Al-Muhit is interpreted as a person who has been
clearly old, that is from the age of 50-80 years or until the end of his life. The Qur'an uses this word
in surah Hud [11]: 72, Yusuf [12]: 78, al- Qasas [28]: 23, and Gafir [40]: 67. The words Ash-Shaykh
in the verses above are referring to Prophet Ibrahim. (Hud [11]: 72), Prophet Job. (Yusuf [12]: 78),
and also the Prophet Moses (al-Qasas [28]: 23). These three Prophets were then old.
Al Ajuz is used by the Qur'an in surah Hud [11]: 72, Ash-Shu'ara '[26]: 171, As-Saffat [37]:
135, and Az-Zariyat [51]: 29. Words this means that the woman who has advanced age (al-mar
'al-kabirah), this word refers to Siti Sarah, wife of Prophet Ibrahim (Hud [11]: 72), wife of Prophet
Lut (Ash-Shu'ara [26]: 171 and As-Saffat [37]: 135) refer to the old and barren wife of Prophet
Ibrahim (Az-Zariyat [51]: 29).
Meanwhile, the term Arzal Al-Umur (or tala'al-umur) is used by the Qur'an in the surah-Nahl [16]:
70 (old age) and al-Hajj [22]: 5 (very old / senile age), and al Ambiya '[21]: 44 (long age as a favor
in the world) and al-Qasas [28]: 45 (long life) There are also verses which indicate the initial phase
of old age, namely women who have stopping from menstruation (menstruation) as explained in
the Surah-Nur [24]: 60.

The alteration of elderly

Elderly is a cumulative change in living things, including the body, tissues and cells,
which has decreased functional capacity. In humans, aging is associated with degenerative
changes in the skin, heart bones, blood vessels, lungs, nerves and other body tissues. With
limited regenerative abilities, they are more susceptible to various diseases, syndromes and
pain compared to other adults. To explain the decline at this stage, there are various
theoretical differences, but generally agree that this process is found more by gene factors.

with fire in it smites it so it becomes blasted; thus Allah makes the communications clear to you, that you
may reflect.

Al-Hajj [22] :5

We bring you out as a child, and then [We develop you] that you may reach your [time of] maturity. And
among you is he who is taken in [early] death, and among you is he who is returned to the most decrepit
[old] age so that he knows, after [once having] knowledge, nothing. And you see the earth barren, but when
We send down upon it rain, it quivers and swells and grows [something] of every beautiful kind.
The meaning Elderly of Al- Kibar
• Based on the previous explanation, the term Al-Kibar on Q.S. Al-Hijr [15] verse
54, implies malnourished parents and advanced parents, and their strength is
fragile.
• Q.S. Al-Isra 'Ayat 23 of the term Al-Kibar means an elderly person who is weak
and must be cared for or cared for or maintained.
• Q.S. Maryam [19] verse 8 of the term Al-Kibar means a person who is very old.

Q. S. Yusuf and Surah Al-Qashash Verse 78 and 23 mean people who are
already old but have authority in the eyes of the community, such as adat
leaders, religious leaders, or community leaders.
The meaning Elderly of Al-JUzz

• Q.S. Hud Verse 72 means an old woman who can no longer give birth
• Q.S. Asy-syu’araa verse 170, term al-ajuz means women who are old,
menopause, and barren, and also contains a kind of insult to him because
usually women even though they have reached old age still reluctant to be
called an old woman.
The Meaning Elderly of Al-Umur

Term Ardzal Al-Umur on Q.S. An-Nahl Paragraph 70 means the weakest

age, which is an age that gradually returns like a physically and psychologically
helpless baby because the muscles and veins relax and the working power of the
cells decreases, and the age makes life less qualified again so that the person
concerned doesn't feel anymore enjoyment of life, may even be bored living, and
people around him also feel that the death for those concerned is good.
Another Problematica for Elderly

Surah An-Nur ayat 60

And old women who have stopped (from menstruation and pregnancy)
who don't want to marry (again), there is no sin for them to take off
their clothes with no (intended) Appearing jewelry, and Valid is polite
better for them.
Conditions as mentioned above by the elderly realizing and accepting
nature (Sunnatullah) may not become a big problem that is very disturbing for
continuity and the quality of life. But the opposite happens, it's difficult
accepting reality, it may create new problems concerning psychiatric, physical
health, interpersonal relationships, and acceleration in senility.

Disease problems in the elderly, apart from due process physiologically

leading to a degenerative direction can also be found including infections, heart,
and blood vessels, metabolic diseases (osteopocytes), malnutrition, use of
drugs and alcohol, neurological diseases (stroke), as well as mental disorders.
Mainly depression and anxiety.

Surah Al-Isra ayat 23

And your Lord has commanded that you do not worship besides Him and do your best to your father as
well as you can. if one of the two or both of them is of old age in your care, then do not say to them
both the words "ah" and do not yell at them and say to them Noble words
Conclusion

good for activities, so there is a need for assistance to maintain and care for them by those around them.

• The Term Ash-Shaykh means that people of advanced age and prominent parents in their society, more precisely

the expression as an insult to her because usually women even though they have reached old age are still reluctant
to be called old women.
