COURSE DESCRIPTION
• This course discusses the construction, operation and
characteristics of basic electronics devices such as PN
junction diode and other special purpose diodes, bipolar
junction transistors and field-effect transistors. Also,
included are diode circuit applications such as clippers,
clampers and switching diode circuits, operation of a dc
regulated power supply as well as analysis of BJT and FET
biased circuits and the operation and characteristics of
Thyristors.
2
COURSE OUTCOMES
A student completing this course should at the minimum be able to:
1. Explain the basic concept of atomic theory and relate it to the
characteristics of materials
2. Analyze the basic operation, construction and characteristics of
different electronic devices such as PN diode and other special
purpose diodes
3. Explain and analyze the basic operation of bipolar junction
transistors and of the field effect transistors, and give their
applications
4. Analyze the operation, characteristics and construction of
thyristors and their applications 3
