WHAT IS INTRAMURAL?
The term ‘’intramural’’ simply
means ‘’within the walls''. It has
been traditionally applied to sports
tournaments, meets and or special
events which are limited to
participants and teams from within
a specific defined community such
as school or other institutional
setting.
What are the Objectives and Goals of
an Intramural Program?
 Provide an opportunity to participate in sport and
recreational activities without regard for high
performance skill or ability.
 Provide activities in a safe and professionally
supervised environment.
 Nurture a healthy spirit of competition,
sportsmanship and teamwork.
 Develop a sense of community within the school. •
Enhance social interaction.
 Expose students to leisure activities that will
contribute to an active lifestyle and enhance physical
fitness.
Rules and Regulation
Sport Rules and Equipment

 All contests shall be governed by Intramural

rules adopted from the NCAA, High School
Athletic Associations, amateur rules, etc.
Modifications will be made to adjust for risk,
space, time and number constraints. The
rules for each sport will be made available to
all participants before the competition in
that sport begins.
 The Intramural Sports Program reserves the
right to institute any rule change and will
notify team managers in a timely manner.
 Conduct and Sportsmanship

 Teams are encouraged to adhere to the

following principles while participating
in the Intramural Program:
 Accept defeat as graciously as victory.
 Respect fellow participants.
 Respect and accept decisions by
officials and supervisors.
 Play by, and within, the rules.
Player Conduct

 Striking, fighting or any other inciting action

(whether physical or verbal) will result in
automatic suspension of the player(s) and
also may result in team suspension.
 Any individual or team suspended from
Intramural activities due to violations of
Intramural Guidelines or sport rules will have
the opportunity to participate in due process
to ensure protection of rights.
TYPES OF COMPETITION
A. SINGLE ELIMINATION- the
type of tournament used when
there is a big number of
entries or players but short
playing days. This type is the
easiest to handle because a
team or player that loses once
automatically eliminated.
B. DOUBLE
ELIMINATION- This
type of tournament allows
the team/player to stay in
the competition until it
loses twice.
C. ROUND ROBIN- The
most effective type of
competition where each
team/player will have a
chance to meet all teams
or players who entered the
competition.
