Admixtures

In a concrete substance other then active or

inert material, an ingredient is mixed to that
concrete mixture in order to alter its
properties increase strength, increase
workability, lower W/C ratio, durability and
resistance to external changes.
Admixtures are added to concrete mixtures in
order to achieve certain goals.
Accelerator admixture

Accelerator admixtures are added to concrete

mixtures to reduce setting time(initial setting
time & final setting time) and to gain high
early strength. The lowering of setting time
and gaining high early strength is totally
dependant upon quantity and type of
accelerator used.

Air-entrained admixtures

Type of admixture that is used in that region

where the concrete is exposed to freezing
thawing.
MECHANISM: Air-entrained admixture consists
of entrained agents. Microscopic air bubbles
in concrete when the hardened concrete
freezes and then on thawing, the frozen
water inside the concrete expands into these
air bubbles, instead of damaging the
concrete.

 Vinsol resin
 Dadex
Importance of using air-entrained admixture:
1. It improves concrete’s workability.
2. It increases durability.
3. Produces a workable mix.
