Appreciation for History
History
• Studying History allows us to gain valuable
perspectives on the problems of our modern
society.
• Many problems, features and characteristics
of modern Philippine society can be traced
back to historical questions on our colonial
past as well as our pre-colonial culture
History
• Our export-oriented economy, for example,
can be traced back ti the ending of the galleon
trade and the subsequent liberalization and
tying of the country to the world market,
couple with the lack of industrial
advancement in the island.
• This and other lesson can be uncovered by
digging deep into the country’s past.
History
• This also applies to other countries’ histories,
and while studying the past may not actually
present a solution to current problems or
directly answer questions, they lend new and
alternative perspectives to current situations
and allow us to further understand current
problems.
History
• Learning history is not exactly a “need” but a very
strong tool which one can choose to acquire.
• By learning the history of any place, one can have
an ability to somewhat graph of pattern of
behavior.
• From such one can learn what are the aspects of
that location, nation or country which are
valuable to keep, repeat and pursue and which
are useless, worthless and even harmful to avoid.
History
• Also, even with absolute no interest in history,
one should at least know the history of the
place of one’s residence, nationality or
country.
• It is not necessary to memorize dates and
such but knowing how a place has developed
is very helpful for living in it.
History
• Is Philippines your original place of birth or
residence?
If yes, then you should at least know how
it has achieved to become what it is now.
If it is not, you can learn something about
what you can do in life by knowing its history
rest assured.
