To design a Psychiatric hospital


specializing in the treatment of serious
psychiatric illness such as clinical
depression, schizophrenia and bipolar
disorder. Healthcare dedicated to
improving, maintaining or
restoring mental and physical health
NEED ?

 According to a journal, Lancet Psychiatry, in India there are roughly 70 million


people psychologically affected.
 Only 53 institutes in India of which every institute should be accommodating 1,30,000
patients.
 In Chennai, there are limited institute’s
compared to the rate of illness :
 Institute of Mental health in Kilpauk,
 Erwadi hospital, 100 beds
 Manashasthra Integrated Mind Care
 SCARF institute
 One in 10 people with mental health SITE :

with proper mental state.

 Administrative block – Lobby/Reception, Office areas, Gathering hall,


Conference rooms, Record rooms.
 In-patients block – Male / Female wards, General wards, Children's ward, Chronic
cases, Acute cases, Tv room/ Kitchen and dining area
 Out-patients block – Doctor rooms, consultants room, Treatment rooms, ICU
ward, visitors area, diagnostic area
 Medical block
 Activity block – Recreational space, washable paint room, indoor games, kids play
area, water ponds, Meditation gardens, outdoor activities, courtyard/atrium spaces
 Therapy block – Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Exposure Therapy, Dialectical
Behaviour Therapy, Library, Occupational therapy
 Other requirements – Restrooms, nurse accommodation, storage rooms, House
keeping, laundry services
