G-K. 1.2 STANDARD OBJECTIVE - SENSES

• What are the five senses?

• Taste
• Smell
• Sight
• Touch
• Sound
TASTE

• Organ used in this sense is the tongue/mouth

• Detects taste of food, sweet, salty, bitter, etc
• Can be used to enjoy the food that gives you nutrients or when
something doesn’t taste right and can be harmful
SMELL

• Organ used is your nose

• Detects scent of things around you
• Can be a warning sign if something has gone bad or no longer fresh
SIGHT

• Organ used is your eyes

• Detects color and light
• Can be used to know where you are going
TOUCH

• Organ used in this system is your skin

• Detects pain, pressure, heat, and cold
• Used to protect your body from the outside environment
SOUND

• Organ used is your ear / ear drum

• Used to hear surroundings
