You are a patriot if you consider these: • 1. Respect the flag and value Filipino identity. • 2. Know your nation’s history and be able to share it to others. • 3. Be a productive citizen. • 4. Be aware of the issues in our country. • 5. Stand proud for every Filipino achievement. • 6. Patronize and support our own products. • 7. Respect everyone and value our traditions. • 8. Speak out our own language and not hesitant to tell where you really came from. • 9. Remember and commemorate our heroes’ sacrifices for our country. • 10. Love our family, our neighbors, and our compatriots. Three major fears that patriots of today need to overcome if they want to unify and strengthen this country into a strong and healthy community:
1. Fear of responsibility- Most people are afraid of responsibility.
We, as a Filipino, need to learn the meaning and value of accountability. We need to learn to live with the choices we make and be able to own up to the mistakes that we’ve committed. Unfortunately, most Filipinos are too irresponsible to realize that most of their own troubles are caused by their own carelessness. 2. Fear of Reality-Being a hero isn’t always a good thing and sometimes, doing the right thing can be a lot harder than you know but you have to go through with it. 3. Fear of Criticism- Filipinos are afraid of criticism. Criticisms hurt but they are what will ultimately lead us to making better decisions in the future.
Are you a Patriot?
Patriotism includes honoring and respecting the flag, which symbolizes the Philippines as a free nation. "Panatang Makabayan” (Patriotic Oath) (Original version - 1955)
I love the Philippines.
It is the land of my birth; It is the home of my people. It protects me and helps me to be strong, happy and useful. In return, I will heed the counsel of my parents; I will obey the rules of my school; I will perform the duties of a patriotic, law- abiding citizen; I will serve my country unselfishly and faithfully I will be a true Filipino in thought, in word, in deed.
