THE RELATIONSHIP

BETWEEN SCHOOLS &

PARENTS
Chapter 5
 An institution designed to allow and encourage students to learn
under the supervision of teachers.

 Most countries have systems of formal education > commonly

compulsory.

 Primary schools for young children and secondary schools for

teenagers.

 There are also non-government schools which are private schools.

These private schools cater for special needs or other syllabuses which
the government is unable to cater.

 As for home schooling and online schools, teaching and learning

take place outside of a traditional school building.

What is School?

SCHOOL SCHOOL
 Parents are the guardians of their
children (students). In this context, they
are the people who support their
children’s schooling.

 Relationship is the connection or bond

two more parties

Who Are Parents? What is

Relationship
 Parents and children spend far less time together and almost all
parents face an on-going struggle to balance the demands of
their family life with their jobs. The pressures make them less
able to participate in their children’s lives, particularly in
education.
 Parents believe that they are not devoting enough time for their
children’s education. This issues which affect education will only
be solved through a joint effort involving parents, schools and the
community.
 School must respond to the needs of parents and provide
necessary got them to be involved in their children’s learning.
Concurrently, parents need to slow down their lives, stress on the
lifelong education and serve as role models for their children.
 Regardless of the economic, racial or cultural background of the
family, when parents are partners in their children’s education,
the result are improved, students’ achievements, better school
attendance, reduced dropout rate etc.

The Relationship Between Parents

& School
 Schools can develop meaningful connections with the
families.

(1) school staff can use a well-executed process what is

called “joining’ with families. They can connect with
parents through activities and programs specifically
designed to welcome families into schools.

(2) school members can work hard to “honour” families, a

process of validating any type of involvement or
contribution parents can make, whether it be reading to a
child at home, donating a book to the library, or being
active in school governance.

The Relationship Between Parents

which can strengthen the discipline in school.
Both these groups are responsible in the
students’ socialization process.

 Both parties need to play the same basic role

[leading, teaching, caring & training]. They
should not have conflict about ideology, principle
and the base of an issue. This is because the
students are the one whom will be affected if
there is any clash between the two parties.

The Role of Parents & Teachers

 To avoid misunderstanding and clash of opinion,
the parents should understand the role of the
teacher and vice-versa. They should meet often
and discuss about the activity, progress and
weakness of their children.

 Parents should not depend fully on teachers to

control students. On the other hand, teachers
should not only focus on education. They should
also implement about personality growth to the
students.

The Role of Parents & Teachers

 The most vital role of the both parties is to give
attention to the students. This responsibility
should be taken into seriously.
