Description

● Administration time: 10-35 minutes per part depending on grade level


○ Child gets as much time as they need to complete the section
● Type of administration: Individual (one-on-one)
● Who administers test: Teacher or school psychologist
● Age/grade levels: Pre-K - 12
● Validity: Yes
● Reliability: Yes
Materials

● Booklet
● Two flip charts
● Flash drive
● Scoring manual
● Response booklet
Scoring

● Standard scores = State


● Age/grade equivalence = Parents
● Application of scores to bell curve:
○ Raw score gives you a standard score, and age/grade equivalent score
○ Standard score converts into percentile
● Each grade has starting point
● There is a basal - must get 3 in a row correct
● Test discontinues after 4 in a row wrong
Strengths and Weaknesses

● Strengths
○ Appealing to look at
○ Understandable/comprehensible
○ Flip chart benefits visual learners
○ Looks like what students are used to
● Weaknesses
○ Not enough spacing for some students with big writing (in math section)
○ Difficult to score for the Reading Comprehension section
Math Computation

● There are 3 subtest for math


○ Math Concepts & Applications: The student will solve math problems that relate to real life
situations and assess skills such as number concepts, arithmetic, time and money and
measurement.
○ Math Computation: The student will solve written math calculation problems.
○ Math Fluency: The student will write answers to simple arithmetic problems within a time
frame. Problems will begin with addition and subtraction and later on the difficulty will increase
with problems that involve multiplication and division.
Reading Comprehension
● There are 7 subtests related to reading
○ Letter & Word Recognition : The student will have to identify letters and read grade-
appropriate words.
○ Nonsense Word Decoding: The student will pronounces made-up words.
○ Reading Comprehension: The student reads symbols, words, sentences, and passages
appropriate to his or her grade level, and then responds to comprehension questions.
○ Reading Vocabulary: First the student will read a word in context of a picture and then later
on during this portion of the test instead of a word it will later on become a sentence and
then the student will select a word that means the same thing.
○ Word Recognition Fluency: The student will read as many words as possible within a time
frame.
○ Decoding Fluency: The student will read as many made-up words as possible within a time
frame.
○ Silent Reading Fluency: The student has 2 minutes to silently read simple questions, circle
yes or no to each one.
Writing Recognition

● There are 3 subtest to this part.


○ Written Expression: The student will hear a story read by the proctor with pictures to go along
with it in the booklet. He or she will have to complete the story by writing letters, words,
sentences, and an essay
○ Spelling: The student writes single letters and spells words dictated by the proctor.
○ Writing Fluency: The student writes simple sentences, each one describing a different picture,
within a time frame.
Language Processing

● There are 3 subtest for this part


○ Phonological Processing: The student responds orally to items that require manipulation of the
sounds within the words.
○ Object Naming Facility: The student names objects in the picture as quickly as he or she can.
○ Letter Naming Facility: The student names upper and lowercase letters as quickly as he or she
can.
Oral Language

● There are 3 subtest to this part of the test


○ Listening Comprehension: The student listens to sentences or passages, and then responds to
comprehension questions.
○ Oral Expression: The student says a sentence to describe a picture.
○ Associational Fluency: The student has 1 minute to say as many words as he or she can that
belong to a particular category.
