Course Objective
• Background
– Electronic Circuit Design is the second course, first being Electronic Devices and
Mansoor Shaukat
Circuits, in the sequence of the two courses on microelectronic circuits.
– This is in addition to the basic courses that you have taken as LCA and ENA.
– You have studied, power sources, elements like resistor, capacitor and inductor and
their current-voltage relationships.
– You have also studied discrete components like diodes, BJTs, and the MOSFETs

• The objective of this course is to provide an insight into analysis and design
of electronic circuits that find extensive application in such fields as computers,
control systems, digital instrumentation, communications, etc.
– The course begins with an introduction to building blocks of IC amplifiers and continues
with differential amplifiers, in both its bipolar and MOSFET forms.
• The most widely used configuration in IC design is the differential pair
• MOSFET is used in over 90% of ICs
– Feedback analysis with focus on applications of negative feedback and stability
problems in feedback amplifiers.
• Feedback helps in effecting more precise gain value and to avoid problems such as instability
– This course also discusses output stages of amplifiers. Finally the course extends to
operational amplifier and introduces both bipolar and MOS analog integrated circuits.
So bon voyage.
