A PROPOSED SAN JOSE

DEL MONTE
GENERAL HOSPITAL
INTRODUCTION
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
 Philippines is one of the country with highest population. According to
US Census Bureau, Philippines is ranked 12th in the world’s most
populous country, contributing 1.35% of total population in the world.
Aside from this fact, Philippines is also considered as a third world
country which means the development of our country is slower
compare to other countries. Services offered are limited to sustain
the growing needs of the people especially those in the rural and sub-
urban areas.
 In the country, some places do not have enough medical facility to
cater ordinary citizens because of the growing population and the in
accessibility of these area. Some hospitals need proper ventilation
and circulation for the users.

OPPORTUNITIES
REPORT OF THE STUDY
THE PROJECT

 Hospitals are health care institutions that have an organized medical

and other professional staff, and inpatient facilities, and deliver
services 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. They offer a varying range
of acute, convalescent and terminal care using diagnostic and curative
services.
 The best-known type of hospital is the general hospital, which is set
up to deal with many kinds of disease and injury, and normally has an
emergency department (sometimes known as "accident & emergency")
to deal with immediate and urgent threats to health. Larger cities
may have several hospitals of varying sizes and facilities.
PROPONENT AND USERS

 The project is proposed because of the lack sufficiency of

health resources facilities in the city.
 In this regard, project will be funded by the City
Government of San Jose del Monte, Bulacan.

from December to April and wet from May to November. The
maximum rainy period is from June to October, with August having the
highest monthly rainfall mean of 253.0mm while February has the
smallest monthly mean of 2.0mm (CSJDM CLUP, 2008).
 Based on rainfall analysis from 14 climatological stations in the
Province of Bulacan, the heaviest rainfall occurs in the months of June
to Decembe associated with typhoon season. Around 16% of typhoons
in the country pass through the area.

CLIMATE
SOCIO ECONOMIC PROFILE
 During the Spanish colonial period, Reduccion, the method of
relocating settlers towards the center of the Poblacion, was practiced
in San Jose, Centro Da Baloges. The practice was widely spread as
part of the movement to spread Catholicism to the remote areas of
Bulacan.
 The new Municipality ‘s population, of not exceeding 200 people,
belonged to the family of farmers and stonecutters of Libtong and
Meycauayan. They lived a simple lifestyle and raised fish, root crops,
vegetables, fruits and other natural products. These families brought
with them rice, wine, betel nut (nganga), and salt from Lagulo (now
Malhacan) in exchange for the wild pigs, deer, yantok and almasigan
of the Itas and Dumagats. Solares, including intended lots for main
roads, were peacefully distributed to the new occupants after being
measured and surveyed.
DEMOGRAPHIC PROFILE
 The Philippine Statistics Authority (National Statistics Office) pegged City of
San Jose Del Monte’s total population at 454,553 in 2010, comprising 15.5%
and still the highest in the Province of Bulacan (Figure 17). This is higher than
the population share of the provincial capital, the City of Malolos, which is
only eight percent.

POPULATION PROJECTION
DEMOGRAPHIC PROFILE
 Barangay Muzon is the most populated barangay in CSJDM, with
81,947 inhabitants (NSO, 2010) or 18% of the City’s total population.
Barangay Minuyan Proper comes second, followed closely by Barangays
Sto. Cristo, Graceville, Kaypian and Citrus. This gives an indication as
to the current needs of the City in terms of services, infrastructure
and other development requirements, particularly for it populous
areas. Figure 18 below shows the barangay population distribution of
the City as of 2010.

BARANGAY POPULATION
 Topography
DEMOGRAPHIC PROFILE
 CSJDM generally has a young population with a median age of 23.5
years old. This is higher than the recorded 2007 City median age of
21.7. It is however lower than the provincial median age of 24.8 years
old (NSO, 2010).
 Meanwhile, the sex ratio for the City in the latest Census year is 99.8;
this means there are approximately 100 males for every 100 females
in the population (CSJDM Ecological Profile, 2014). Males accounted
for 50.1% while females comprised 49.9%. The recorded sex ratio in
2000 was the same as that in 2010.

TOTAL POPULATION BY AGE, GROUP AND SEX

GENERAL HEALTH SITUATION
 CSJDM’s crude birth has been higher than the Province’s latest
estimate in 2011. While having no comparison in the succeeding years,
the City’s Crude Birth Rate (CBR) has continued to increase.
Meanwhile, CSJDM has consistently experienced Crude Death Rates
lower than that of the Province. The net increase indicates
consistently higher population counts in the City compared to the
Province, as validated in population indicators.
GENERAL HEALTH SITUATION

 According to the City Health Office (CSJDM Ecological Profile, 2014), Muzon
has the greatest access to health facilities, followed by Graceville, Kaypian
and Minuyan Proper. Access is critical especially to highly dense barangays like
Graceville.
 As of 2013, CSJDM has one public hospital with 200-bed capacity, five private
hospitals and five City Health Centers.

MEDICAL HEALTH FACILITIES AND PERSONNEL

GENERAL HEALTH SITUATION

 In Region III, acute watery diarrhea leads the morbidity list, while bronchitis /
bronchiolitis comes next

MORBIDITY AND MORTALITY

GENERAL HEALTH SITUATION
 Majority of the diseases found in the provincial list is also present in
CSJDM. For the years 2011 to 2013, the reported prevalence of
diseases in the City was marked by a combination of both infectious
and chronic diseases: acute respiratory infection, diarrhea, wound
infections, bronchitis, tonsillitis, and hypertension, as reflected in
Figures 29 to 30 (CSJDM Ecological Profile, 2014)

MORBIDITY AND MORTALITY

GENERAL HEALTH SITUATION
 The death rate can be disaggregated into infant deaths, maternal
deaths, deaths due to neonatal tetanus, perinatal deaths, and due to
other causes from pathogenic, chronic, and debilitating diseases, as
accounted in tables below.

MORBIDITY AND MORTALITY

TRASPORTATION

The Infrastructure Sector of CSJDM includes roads, bridges, drainage,

sewerage, power, and telecommunications. The Department of Public
Works and Highways (DPWH) is the national government agency
mandated to undertake the planning of said infrastructures. As such,
DPWH Regional Office in Bulacan (Region III) has two regional offices to
manage their respective Engineering Districts; the 1st and 2nd District
Engineering Offices (DEO). CSJDM belong`s to the 2nd DEO, which also
comprise Sta. Maria, Norzagaray, and other cities located on the eastern
portion of Bulacan Province. The City Engineering Office of CSJDM is the
office mandated to undertake infrastructure projects from the barangay
to city level.
TRANSPORTATION

Roads and bridges are the vital elements in providing mobility,

facilitating circulation and movement in the City. Roads are classified
from national roads where it has two subsections – primary and
secondary roads, to barangay roads. National roads serve as linkages of
the City to the other major cities and other major institutions. Provincial
roads or local roads connect cities and municipalities without traversing
national roads. Municipal and city roads are roads within the Poblacion
and provide inter barangay connections to major municipal and city
infrastructure without traversing the provincial roads. National roads are
therefore tasked to DPWH.
POWER

 CSJDM is under the franchise area of Meralco which distributes

electricity to its customers and gets its supply from the National Grid
Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP). As of 2012, Meralco claims to
serve 86,751 customers (residential, industrial, commercial,
streetlights). The residential customers make up the bulk of its
customer base at 94.6% of the total number of customers.
 Meralco delivers electricity to all its customers on a 24/7 basis. Power
service interruptions are usually scheduled and announced and nature
of power service interruptions is to give way to maintenance check of
all its facilities in the Meralco network. Restoration of power in area
affected by natural hazards such as typhoons is attended to by
Meralco within 24 hours.
WATER

 CSJDM Water District was established in July 1980 by virtue of PD 198,

as amended, otherwise known as Provincial Water Utilities Act of
1973. The LWUA classifies it as Category a Water District. Residents
are also served by pump stations. Before the advanced growth of
water distribution in the City, the water pumps were the immediate
answer to the population‟s need for water. A record is maintained in
National Water Resources Board (NWRB) for pumps stations across the
City. On the other hand, households that are not served by CSJDM
Water District depend on deep well water extraction. However,
extraction has decreased due to increasing service of CSJDM Water
District.
Information and Communications
Technology
 The presences of dominant telecommunication (terrestrial and
wireless) companies in the City have supported its continued
development. The City and its constituents and business locators
enjoy the services provided by the Philippine Long Distance Telephone
Co. (PLDT), Globe Telecoms, Bayantel and Digital Telecommunications
Co. (Digitel) for landline and wireless communications. PLDT operates
the Smart, Talk n‟ Text and Sun Cellular, while Globe Telecoms
operates the Globe Wireless and Touch Mobile
 PLDT which largely provides the telephone lines in the City are
servicing the residential and commercial establishments in the
Poblacion and nearby barangays. The table below summarizes the
telecommunications providers in the City.
Information and Communications
Technology
 The proximity of CSJDM to Metro Manila offers the same clarity of wireless
telephone signals. These telecom companies maintain cellular base stations
strategically located in certain barangays of the City.
