Test-tube fireworks experiment

By Nathan
What makes the
fireworks go if
there is no gun
powder?
The Experiment
❖ Test Tube rack
❖ Large test tube
Equipment ❖ Food colouring(Small dropper
bottle
❖ Container with fizzer tablets
Procedure
1. Place the test tube inside the rack
2. Fill to the line with water
3. See the teacher for the bottle of oil and carefully fill to the red line with oil
4. Add 10 drops of food coloring to the test tube. What do you observe? Why is this
happening?
5. Now Drop in 1 piece of fizzer tablet. What do you observe? Why is this happening?
6. When the fizzing stops you can add another piece of tablet
Hypothesis
I think that the
fizzer tablet is
gonna make the
water, oil and
food coloring fizz
Hypothesis support
I think this is what’s going to happen
because the tablets are called fizzer
tablets so its gonna fizz.
The experiment
Conclusion
The fizzer tablets have a carbonite and an acid component. When these chemicals
dissolve in water they react and produce, among other things, carbon dioxide gas.
These bubbles of gas carry colored water up through the oil as they are now less
dense than water

My hypothesis was that the water, oil and food coloring was gonna fizz when we put
a fizzer tablet in the Test-tube I think that the fizzer tablet is gonna make the water, oil and food
coloring fizz
Candle flame experiment
I observed the wick didn't burn away but it was burning and it was bent over
more

The yellow and blue zones are the flame. Combustion (burning) is occuring at the
blue flame (the hottest part)- it has access to a lot of oxygen. Incomplete
combustion occurs with the yellow flame. Glowing soot particles are what produce
the yellow colour. The dark zone is an area of gasses from the wax and is oxygen
deprived.
The temperature of the blue part of the flame is more than 1,500 degrees celsius.
Colour flames
When we put CaCL4 and CaCL3 over a lit candle the flame went blue and
green. But when we but CuSO4 and SrCl2 it made the flame go orange. When we
mixed CaCL4 and SrCl2 it made an aqua colour
Fun facts about fire
❖ Fire is a chemical reaction that lets out
warmth and light.
❖ If you put a cup over a lit candle the flame
will go out.
❖ Fires need fuel such as wood and oil.
❖ Fire is very, very, extremely hot and
dangerous, a candle burns at about 1,000
degrees celsius.
❖ If you see a fire don’t just tip some water
onto it find out what started the fire and
go on from there.
