FUNCTIONS OF POWER & NES DEPT.
 To evolve general policies and programme including Perspective Planning
of power sector to exercise control over generation & distribution of
electricity for general well being of the people.
 Administration of electricity act 2003 including rules & regulations
through West Bengal Electricity Regulatory Commission and utilities.
 Monitoring and co-ordination of activities of various power utilities.
 Liaison with Ministry of Power, Govt. of India, Central Electricity
Authority, REC and other concerned Government Department.
 Appointment of Chairman and members of West Bengal Electricity
Regularity Commission.
 Rural Electrification programme.
 Development and monitor, establishment of different forms of non-
conventional (renewal sources).

STATE LOAD DESPATCH CENTRE (SLDC)

 State Load Despatch Centre (SLDC) was established by


Government of West Bengal in line with E(S) Act 2003 in
2006.
 Apex body to ensure real time integrated operation of State
Electrical Power System.
 Responsible for (a) optimum scheduling and despatching
of electricity (b) Monitoring the State Grid to ensure
reliability, system security and economy (c) State Level
Energy Accounting and operation of State UI.
 A maximum demand of 6734 MW including CESC was
served by SLDC in the year 2012-13.
