CA for Downlink 2CC From Multiple Carriers

Description: CA for Downlink 2CC From Multiple Carriers

• In three carrier scenarios, this feature selects two of the three
carriers to perform CA based on the UE capability and carrier 850 MHz 2.1 GHz 2.6 GHz
management.

Benefits:
• This feature supports CA for UEs with different CA capabilities in
three carrier scenarios, improving the user experience.
2.6 GHz 2.1 GHz
• This feature provides a more flexible carrier management mode. 850 MHz 2.6 GHz
850 MHz 2.1 GHz

Functions:
• PCC pre-configuration
• SCell blind configuration
• SCell Priority

PCell Pre-configuration
 The PCell pre-configuration function is controlled by PccAnchorSwitch under ENodebAlgoSwitch.CaAlgoSwitch. If PccAnchorSwitch is on, the
eNodeB determines whether the PCell priority specified by CaGroupCell.PreferredPCellPriority in the CA group is the highest after the UE initially
accesses a cell. If the priority is not the highest, the eNodeB treats other higher-priority cells within the CA group as candidate PCells for the UE, arranges
them in descending order of PCell priority, and attempts to select a candidate PCell for the UE based on the A4 measurement. If the attempt fails, the UE
is kept camping on the cell. If PccAnchorSwitch is off, the eNodeB does not perform the PCell pre-configuration determination, the UE camps on the
current cell. PccAnchorSwitch is off by default.
 The value of CaGroupCell.PreferredPCellPriority ranges from 0 to 7. The default value is 0.
 The PCell pre-configuration function takes effect only when a UE initially accesses a cell.

Example:
When PccAnchorSwitch is on, and a CA UE accesses the 2.6 GHz or 2.1 GHz frequency band,
the eNodeB finds 850 MHz cells in the same CA group based on the A4 measurement.
If a 850 MHz cell that meets the requirement is found, the UE hands over to the cell.

CaGroupSCellCfg MO for SCell
 CaGroupSCellCfg MO is introduced in eRAN7.0 to configure the priorities and blind configuration flags of
SCells.
In eRAN7.0, perform the following configurations on the eNodeB:
• CaGroup
- CaGroupId = 0;
• CaGroupCell
- eNodeBId = 123, LocalCellId = 0, PreferredPCellPriority = 2
- eNodeBId = 123, LocalCellId = 1, PreferredPCellPriority = 1
CellA: - eNodeBId = 123, LocalCellId = 2, PreferredPCellPriority = 0
eNodeBId = 123 • CaGroupSCellCfg
LocalCellId = 0 - LocalCellId= 0, SCelleNodeBId = 123, SCellLocalCellLId = 1, SCellPriority = 2, SCellBlindCfgFlag = TRUE;
- LocalCellId =0, SCelleNodeBId = 123, SCellLocalCellLId = 2, SCellPriority = 0, SCellBlindCfgFlag = TRUE;
- LocalCellId= 1, SCelleNodeBId = 123, SCellLocalCellLId = 0, SCellPriority = 2, SCellBlindCfgFlag = FALSE;
CellB: - LocalCellId =1, SCelleNodeBId = 123, SCellLocalCellLId = 2, SCellPriority = 0, SCellBlindCfgFlag = TRUE;
- LocalCellId= 2, SCelleNodeBId = 123, SCellLocalCellLId = 0, SCellPriority = 2, SCellBlindCfgFlag = FALSE;
eNodeBId = 123
- LocalCellId =2, SCelleNodeBId = 123, SCellLocalCellLId = 1, SCellPriority = 1, SCellBlindCfgFlag = FALSE;
LocalCellId = 1

When SCellPriority for a cell is set to 0, the cell

CellC: cannot be configured to be an SCell. In this example,
eNodeBId = 123 cell C cannot be configured as the SCell of cell A or
LocalCellId = 2 cell B.
When SCellBlindCfgFlag is set to TRUE, SCells of the cell are configured in blind
mode.
When SCellBlindCfgFlag is set to FALSE, SCells of the cell are configured based on
measurement.
Note: In inter-BBU CA scenarios, CaGroup, CaGroupCell, and CaGroupSCellCfg must be configured for each BBU in the CA separately.

SCell Blind Configuration
Service Established
 SCell blind configuration: The eNodeB configures a cell as the SCell for the UE
when the UE establishes RRC connections without the A4 measurement, as
illustrated in the grey part in the figure on the right.
Measurement Control
 The SCell blind configuration function is controlled by the following parameters: and Report
 SccBlindCfgSwitch under ENodebAlgoSwitch.CaAlgoSwitch, which is set to Off by
default.

Example: N Buffer_Length &
When a CA UE establishes an RRC connection (PCell = 2.1 GHz) in a 2.1 GHz cell, the Buffer_Delay
eNodeB configures a 850 MHz cell as an SCell in a blind manner when both of the following
conditions are met:
• SccBlindCfgSwitch for the eNodeB that covers the 2.1 GHz cell is set to ON. Y
• In CaGroupSCellCfg for the eNodeB that covers the 2.1 GHz cell, SCellBlindCfgFlag
corresponding to the 850 MHz cell is set to TRUE.

according to the descending order of SCell priorities and attempts to
configure this cell as the SCell for the UE. If SCellBlindCfgSwitch is set to
TRUE, blind configuration is adopted. If SCellBlindCfgSwitch is set to
FALSE, the A4 measurement-based configuration is adopted. PreferredPCellPriority = 1 2.6 GHz
 If SCellPriority for a candidate SCell is 0, the SCell cannot be configured as
an SCell for CA UEs. CA
 If values of SCellPriority for two candidate SCells are the same and are not
0, SCell set as blind configuration will be preferentially choosed. PreferredPCellPriority = 0 850 MHz

Planning
 Information about neighboring cells
 Check that two cells to be added into a CA group are configured as a neighboring cell of each other.
 The neighboring cell to be added into the CA group is not a blacklisted inter-frequency cell of the local cell identified by
InterFreqBlkCell.LocalCellId.
 EutranInterFreqNCell.NoHoFlag of the neighboring cell to be added into the CA group is not set to FORBID_HO_ENUM(Forbid Ho).

 UE capabilities
 Check that the UE complies with 3GPP Release 10 or later and supports both carriers and their channel bandwidths in a CA group.

 Core network
 Collect the registration information about CA UEs on the EPC. To achieve a peak data rate of 300 Mbit/s under 2x2 MIMO in two-carrier aggregation
scenarios, the maximum data rate registered at the EPC must be no less than 300 Mbit/s.

 RF planning
 Intra-site scenarios: Plan the same azimuth for cells to be added into the same CA group. Only application scenarios 1 and 2 are supported
currently.
 If the inter-BBU cells to be configured in a CA group provide different coverage areas, BBU-interconnection-based CA takes effect across the
overlapping area of the two cells. Therefore, plan the coverage areas in such a way that the two cells provide as much overlap as possible.

 Network planning
 If the network should be operating at multiple frequencies
 If the network now works at a single frequency, plan required transmission resources and plan the same azimuth for the cells to be added into the
network when deploying other frequencies.

HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES
HISILICON CO., LTD.
SEMICONDUCTOR Huawei Confidential Page 11
Planning
 Feature deployment
 CA applies to two single-carrier cells or a dual-carrier sector. For details about how to deploy a dual-carrier cell, see Engineering Guidelines in Cell
Management Feature Parameter Description.
 Hardware planning
 Use a combination of LBBPc, LBBPd, and UBBP boards, except a combination of two LBBPc boards for CA. CA applies to three pairs of inter-BBP
cells on two baseband processing units (BBPs) or two cells on the same BBP. Inter-BBP CA applies to 2T2R and 2T4R on LBBPd boards.
 Intra-BBP CA applies to the following types of baseband boards:
 LBBPd3: 2T2R
 UBBPd5: 2T2R
 UBBPd6: 2T2R or 2T4R
 CA requires an LBBPd or UBBP to be installed in slot 2 or 3 of a BBU3900, if configured. This requirement does not apply to a BBU3910.
 LAOFD-070201 CA for Downlink 2CC From Multiple Carriers is supported. If the BBU3900 is used, two of the LBBPd or UBBP boards providing the
three carriers for flexible aggregation must be installed in slots 2 and 3. If the BBU3910 is used, these LBBPd or UBBP boards can be installed in
any slots.

FAQs
• Carriers of the two cells in a CA group must have the same CP length. This is, two carriers must both use
normal CP or extended CP.
• CELLDLSCHALGO.CaSchStrategy must be set to the same value for all cells served by an eNodeB. If cells
have different settings, data transmission may be interrupted.
• By default, CA UEs do not use frequency selective scheduling in the SCell. If it is required, set
CELLDLSCHALGO.CaSccDopMeas to FROMPCC.
• After a CA group is configured, the eNodeB can configure an SCell for CA UEs that newly access the network
when the conditions for SCell configuration are met. However, this does not apply to CA UEs that have been
staying in RRC_CONNECTED mode before the CA group is configured. The eNodeB can configure an SCell for
these UEs only after they access the network again or are handed over to another cell that is in a CA group.
• A CA UE that is configured with an SCell can enter DRX mode only if DRX is enabled in both the PCell and the
SCell.
• An eNodeB can be configured with a maximum of 72 CaGroupSCellCfg MOs. Ensure that the configured
candidate SCells exist in the network. The configurations of non-existing candidate SCells do not take effect. If
the eNodeB is configured with a large number of CA groups in which an excessive number of CaGroupSCellCfg
MOs are invalid, you must delete the invalid CaGroupSCellCfg MOs. If the number of configured
CaGroupSCellCfg MOs reaches its maximum, no more MOs can be configured on the eNodeB.
