Welcome! To help you get started with technology, IT Training provides you

Network & Internet Use at MathWorks
MathWorks provides all staff with email, Internet access, and other electronic
media to facilitate timely and efficient work.

Email, voicemail, and network systems are company property, so we ask all
staff to:

 Use email and the network for business purposes


 Not use Peer-to-peer (P2P) software, such as BitTorrent (even on mobile
devices)
 Use network bandwidth wisely; do not stream music, Internet radio, or
non-work related videos

You will review the


Acceptable Electronic Mail, Network, and Internet Use Policy in depth as part of
your Self-paced Training.

The MathWorks Inside Page: Introduction

The Inside home page is the front door to the MathWorks intranet. Use Inside
to find:
 Announcements about company events, news, and strategic information
 Information about system and facility outages
 Links to department and location specific web pages
Access the Inside home page by typing inside/ on a network-connected
machine.
Or, from any other internal page, click the membrane
to go back to the Inside home page.

The MathWorks Inside Page: Major Business Areas & Team Pages

Our SharePoint sites are arranged in a hierarchy that is based on how the
company is organized. These sites can be found at the top of the Inside page.
Global tabs take you to our Major Business areas:
1. Development
2. Marketing
3. Sales and Service
4. Foundation Services
See more information about SharePoint in your self-paced learnings and in our
SharePoint resource center.

IT Knowledge Central / Resource Centers

IT Knowledge Central is home to our


self-help resource centers.

These resource centers are curated,


updated, and maintained by IT Training.

All resource centers are available off of


the MathWorks network, meaning you
can access them from home without a
VPN.

Working Away from MathWorks Resource Center

This resource center can be accessed from on or off the network by going to
remoteconnect.mathworks.com.

Resources include:
 ‘What Can I Access Without VPN?’ Guide
 VPN installation instructions
 Using Remote Desktop
 Accessing work files and folders from your home computer
 Using the Computer Wake Up Tool

Note: MathWorks-issued laptops, including loaner laptops, have DirectAccess


already installed and are ready to use from outside the office. Non-MathWorks
machines require installation of Cisco AnyConnect for network access.

Mobile Devices Resource Center

Use the Mobile Devices Resource Center for help with


setting up the following:
 Email - Outlook app (recommended) or native phone app
 Skype for Business app
 OneDrive and other Office apps

Accessing Email and the MathWorks Network on Your Mobile Device

By accessing MathWorks data on your mobile device, you are accepting


MathWorks security policies and agreeing to:

 Lock your mobile device using a 4-digit PIN or your fingerprint


 Notify SSG immediately if your device is lost or stolen

Getting Help at MathWorks
The Systems Services (SSG) and Office Services (OSG) groups are here to
support you:
1. Submit a help ticket online (type ‘help’).
2. Call the Help line (x4357) Mon-Fri 7:30ET-5:30ET.
-The Help line is available on Skype for Business by typing
HELP into the contacts list
-In Natick, the kitchen/copy areas have red phones that connect
directly to the Help line.
3. Walk up to the Matrix Bar in AH3-FL1 (in Natick) or visit your local
Desktop Support person/team.

Note: It is best practice to search for solutions in


IT Knowledge Central and check outage alerts on the
Inside page before submitting a help ticket.

Using the Company Directory
The internal staff directory, or company Facebook, is available on the Inside
page. Use the company Facebook to:
 View the organization chart
 See all the worldwide departments and groups
 View floor plans for every MathWorks office
-Key to finding conference rooms, printers, supply closet, offices &
cubicles of other staff
 Find other staff members using the Advanced Search

Try it yourself: View your own profile on


Facebook. Find your manager’s office location.
View the floor plan(s) of your local office.

 Accessible on the Inside page via Apps > Staff Member Apps > Learning
Central
 Search / Browse for training opportunities
-Instructor led trainings
-Online trainings
-Training / self-help materials
 Learning and self-improvement is a core value
-40 hour yearly training goal
 In most cases, cancellations require approval
 Fill out an evaluation for instructor led trainings to receive credit

 Private social network
 Access from anywhere
-No VPN needed when outside the network
-Free mobile client is available
Try it yourself: Log in to Yammer by clicking on
Yammer in the top right of the Inside page.
Search for and join the MathWorks New Hires
Yammer group.
See your online curriculum or buddy checklist for
more information

Next Steps
 Enroll a second method of multi-factor authentication (next slide).
 Fill out the evaluation for this session – will be used to track attendance and
issue training hour credit
 Complete the self-paced training in Learning Central
 If applicable, complete and submit the Buddy Checklist
 Check-in in the ‘MathWorks New Hires’ Yammer group during the follow up
session
 MathWorks Account (for tools like MATLAB) - Follow the instructions in your
self-paced training to set up or gain access
 Visit the New Hire Resource Center or IT Knowledge Central for help, if
needed

Add a Backup Multi-Factor Authentication Method

You already registered one authentication method in order to


sign in to Workday.
Enroll another authentication method as a backup in case
your primary method is unavailable:

1. Search for ‘mfa’ on the Inside home page.


2. Click on the Multi-Factor Authentication Resource Center best bet.
3. Open the “Enrolling In Multi-Factor Authentication” article.
4. Follow instructions to enroll an additional authentication method.
 Email is recommended as a secondary authentication method.
