European style of drawing and painting

 Juan N. Luna and Felix R. Hidalgo- reformist


painters who continued their efforts to paint their
strong reaction to foreign rule.

 Felix Resurreccion Hidalgo and Juan Luna-
“first Filipino and pride of their race.

 Their paintings were allegorical , as they were


allusions to the situation of the Philippines under
foreign rulers.
SPOLARIUM- a painting about the spoils of
gladiatorial combat in Rome.
LAS VIRGENES ESPUESTAS AL POPULACHO
-about Christian virgins exposed to the populace
MAESTRO DAMIAN DOMINGO- self-portrait of
Maestro Damian Domingo and one of the early forms
of paintings in the Phil.

THE PARISIAN LIFE- by Juan Luna, the only painting
where Dr. Rizal and Luna himself were depicted.

 FERNANDO AMORSOLO- develop his own way of
expressing art by the use of incandescent lighting in his
ideal landscapes and portraits.
 VICENTE MANANSALA- works are characterized by
simplicity of subject matter.
 CARLOS “BOTONG” FRANCISCO- concern with the
spirit of community.
 MAURO “MALANG” SANTOS- an illustrator and
cartoonist
 JOSE JOYA- an able exponent of abstract
expressionism, he paints using generous and vigorous
colors.
 ANG KIUKOK- paintings were characterized by strong
tension and angst.
THE PARISIAN LIFE- by Juan Luna, the only painting
where Dr. Rizal and Luna himself were depicted.
