• It is not accepted that you have any spelling

mistakes.
• It is a sign on carelessness and unprofessionalism.
• First you should review your slides.
• Second Power point already has spelling checker; make
sure to use it.

Use color combinations that work when projected.

Colors

• Blue is one of the most common background colors. It's

calming and conservative. Studies have shown that blue
has the power to slow our breathing and pulse rates. It
works well in relaxed environments with the lights on,
and help promote interaction.

• Green: Stimulates interaction and puts people at ease.

It's a friendly color that's great for warmth and emotion.
Green is commonly used in PowerPoint presentations
for trainers, educators.

Colors
• Red is one of the most influential colors, but it also
carries negative cultural attachments, so use it carefully.
Red is also a great color for conveying passion. Or
talking about the competition.

• Black: A strong and definite color that's often overlooked.

It works well in relaxed environments with the lights on,
and helps promote interaction.

•Yellow can create feelings of frustration and anger. While

it is considered a cheerful color, people are more likely to
lose their tempers in yellow rooms and babies tend to
cry more in yellow rooms.

C. Choose the font
• Fonts communicate subtle messages in and of
themselves, which is why you should choose fonts
deliberately.

• Use the same font set throughout your entire slide

presentation, and use no more than two complementary
fonts (e.g., Arial and Arial Bold).

• Make sure you know the difference between a Serif font

(e.g., Times New Roman) and a Sans-Serif font
(Helvetica or Arial).

Dr. Arwa Hussein - 2018

C. Choose the font
• Serif fonts were designed to be used in documents filled with
lots of text.

• Serif fonts are said to be easier to read at small point sizes, but
for on screen presentations the serifs tend to get lost due to the
relatively low resolution of projectors.

• San-serif fonts are generally best for PowerPoint

presentations, but try to avoid the ubiquitous Helvetica.

• Regardless of what font you choose, make sure the text

can be read from the back of the room.

d. Use Less Text

• A presentation is not effective when slides are verbose and

filled with lots and lots of text for the viewer to read. This type
of presentation is better suited for publishing a paper or journal
article and is not desirable for an oral presentation. Remember
what a presentation is and what it is not. This type of slide is a
real attention-killer and very difficult for the audience to follow.

Use Bullet List

• Long List distracts the audience.

• Limit the number of bullets in a screen to six,

• Keep each bullet to one line, two at the most.

• Bullets allow you to “cue” the audience in on what you

are going to say.
• Cues can be thought of as a brief “preview.”

• This gives the audience a “framework” to build upon.

Guidelines for Text

• Use only 4-6 lines of text per slide.

• Use phrases, not full sentences.

• Use Upper Case and Lower Case for ease of reading.

• Leave the same space at the top of each slide.

• Limit lines to no more than 40 characters.

Caps and Italics
• Do not use all capital letters
• Makes text hard to read

• Conceals acronyms

• Denies their use for EMPHASIS

• Italics
• Used for “quotes”

• Used to highlight thoughts or ideas

• Used for book, journal, or magazine titles

4-Use Visual Aids Effectively
• Why Use Visual Aids?

– They save time and add interest

– They improve listener understanding

– They improve listener retention

– They allow for different learning styles

4-Use Visual Aids Effectively
The benefits of carefully selected and prepared audiovisual aids:

They allow multi-sense learning to take place,

They can be used to introduce new topics and summarize ideas, and
They can be used to clarify complex or multifaceted ideas.

The drawbacks of audiovisual aids may not be as obvious:

They can be boring and overused,

They can be difficult to coordinate into a presentation,
They can be time-consuming to construct, and
they can give the speaker a false sense of mastery of his/her topic

Use of Images

• Use one image per slide.

• Use Two to contrast, but make them big.
• Always Choose the one with better resolution.
• Do not enlarge small images.
• Do not distort the image.
• Draw arrows to point – animate it.
• Credit the source .
– author, book/article/website, date, URL

5- Technological Gymnastics
• Don’t let the message be overwhelmed by technological
gymnastics.
• Beware of animations, It is distracting.
• It should enhance, not distract.
• It should not kill time.
• It should be subtle.
• Do NOT use Animation Schemes.
• Custom Animation only .
• Use same transition between slides.

Use Equations Sparingly

Talk about the equation;

do not read it.
