Regular and Irregular Verbs

• Examples:

• I played soccer yesterday (play)

• I went to my favorite restaurant (go)
REGULAR VERBS
• To form the simple past of many regular
verbs, add -ed to the base form.
Example: walk – walked

• If the verb ends in a consonant+y replace

–y with –i and add –ed
Example: study - studied
• If the verb ends in –e, add –d
Example: arrive –arrived

• If a one-syllable verb ends in a consonant

(CVC), double the last consonant and add
–ed
Example: tap - tapped
 IRREGULAR VERBS

• The simple past form of irregular verbs

varies. You should memorize them.
 Negative Statements

Examples: I didn’t play soccer yesterday

I didn’t go to my favorite restaurant

My favorite movie as a child was “El
Barrendero”. I saw it for the first time when I
was six. I liked this movie because it was
funny and sad at the same time. It’s about a
street cleaner man who finds a neglected
baby in the garbage. He couldn’t take care
of this baby because he was very poor. The
ending was very sad and tender because
the government took the baby away from
this man and gave the baby into adoption to
a very rich family. The man suffered very
much because he loved this baby but he
was very happy at the same time because
the baby would have a family.
