Introduction

› The Digital Unit WCDMA (DUW) is used in the new RBS6000 to

support the WCDMA technology.

› There are 3 different types of DUW

– DUW10, DUW20, and DUW30

› This document illustrates the method to configure the Resource_ID,

and to calculate the remaining CE for R99 for DUW.

Channel Element

› Definition:
– CE is a measure of board capacity and radio bearer capacity
cost
– CE is an unit less entity

› Normalization:
– Downlink: One AMR12.2kbps with SF=128
– Uplink: One AMR12.2kbps with SF=64

Resource_id

The DUW has so called Resource_Id’s. Each Resource_Id can

be configured with one of the following options:
➢Up to 6 cell carriers HSDPA with a maximum of 30 HS codes
and up to 128 users (max 96 users per cell)
➢R99 DCH with a capacity of 128CE
➢6 cell carriers EUL with up to 96 users (max 48 users per
cell carrier)

Resources per DUW

DUW 1 0 = Low capacity = 128CE

DUW 2 0 = Medium capacity =
384CE
DUW 3 0
= High capacity = 768CE

➢Possible Resource_ID configurations in DUW for different

services.

Resources per DUW cont.

By default, the number of Resource_ID for R99 services is

automatically configured to the maximum number as previously shown
in the table, ie. 1 for DUW10, 3 for DUW20, and 6 for DUW30.

A-dch ce re s e rv at i on

› A-DCH are dedicated channels, used for UL/DL signaling (SRB) when using HSDPA
service.

› A-DCH channels consume CEs both for UL/DL, but in DL these CEs are reserved from the
DL R99 CE pool.

› It is important to calculate the amount of R99 CE as this A-DCH reservation effectively

reduces the CE capacity for R99.

With W11B feature “SRB

on HSDPA”, no A-DCH
CEs reservation is
necessary!! A-DCHs for UL&DL

A-dch ce r e s e rv a t i on

› The cost for 1 A-DCH in RBS6000 is 0.5CE.

› The amount of A-DCH resources reserved by default in a Baseband pool is the

minimum of Criteria 1, Criteria 2 and Criteria 3 below:

➢ Criteria 1 : A-DCH CE reserved = no of cells*[(# of total HS users)* 1.3*0.5 ] where

(# of total HS users) = value of the parameter “maxNumHsdpaUsers” . it should not be
bigger than “licenseCapacityNumHsdpaUsers”, otherwise
licenseCapacityNumHsdpaUsers should be used instead of (# of total HS users)

➢ Criteria 2 : A-DCH CE reserved = 1.3 * (number of HS Resource_ID) * 128 * 0.5 where

(number of HS Resource_ID) = value off parameter “numHsCodeResources”

➢ Criteria 3 : A-DCH CE reserved = Value of parameter “maxNumAdchRerervation”

(usually 128)

➢ So A-DCH CE reserved =

min(criteria1,criteria2,criteria3) Note: 1.3 in above

This calculation is valid for RBS 6000 series having DUW boards
calculation is SHO margin

Criteria 1 : A-DCH CE reserved = no of cells*[(# of total HS

users)* 1.3*0.5 ie = 3*16*1.3*0.5 =31.2 ~ 32

Criteria 2 : A-DCH CE reserved = 1.3 * (number of HS Resource_ID)

* 128 * 0.5 ie. =1.3*2*128*0.5 = 166.4 ~ 166

Criteria 3 : A-DCH CE reserved = maxnumadchreservation =

So ADCH CE reserved = min(criteria1,criteria2,criteria3) ie. =

min(32,166,128) = 32

HS DUW 20 HS
numHScoderesources=2
EUL EUL
numEULcoderesources=1 Available CE for R99 =
(2*128) – CE reserved for
ADCH = 256 -32 =224
R99/HS HS
R99/HS R99
R99/HS R99

This calculation is valid for RBS 6000 series having DUW boards
