5ESS-DCS (Digital Cellular Switch)

 responsible for controlling the switching and


traffic loads of the various call types (voice,
data, and fax) to and from the Public
Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and the
mobile.
Access Manager

 Executive Cellular Processor (ECP)


 capable of supporting 5ESS and cell sites
 performs mobility management functions includes
 determining if the mobile requesting access to the system is genuine,
 maintaining a database of subscriber records and locations, and
 collecting account billing information.

 Operations and Management Platform (OMP / OMP-FX)


 Data management (a centralized tool for connections to the Access
Manager, the 5ESS-2000 Switch, and the cell site)
 collects records on condition faults which occur in the system,
 provides detailed reports of service records, and
 provisions the cell site.
 In addition, it performs real time billing and backup storage data
functions
 OMP-FX is compatible with Flexent systems.

 Contains channel elements (CEs)
 Upto 12 CMUs can be implemented in Modcell 4.0
 Main difference from CCU is it has higher density and capable to
support two carriers
 Capacity: CMU-III (64 CEs), CMU-IV (128 CEs)
 CMU-III contains 64 paired (fwd – rev) and 64 fwd-unpaired
(reserved for 52 F-SCH and 12 Sync), and CMU-IV has 128 paired
CEs and no unpaired CE.
 Each channel element can be assigned to perform the overhead or
traffic channel function.
