GIOVANNI PIERLUIGI DE PALESTRINA


 He was an Italian composer of the
Renaissance.

 was born in Palestrina, a town near Rome.

 He was the most famous 16th century


representative of the Roman School of musical
composition.
 He received his early training and spent the
majority of his career and various churches in
Rome, including the
pope’s chapel.

 He was as an organist and choir master at both


the Sestine Chapel and St. Peter.
 His first published composition a book of
masses made so favorable an impression with
Pope Julius III.
 He also served as an organist in St. Agapito.

 His first book Masses became popular and was


greatly appreciated by Pope Julius III.
 Palestrina has two sons but lost them both during
the plague epidemic struck Rome in 1570’s.

 He had planned to become a priest but eventually


changed his mind in married a wealthy widow.
