 Build wooden bridges that will be subjected to a load


test (mobile and static) and will be rated based on
their efficiency

 (understanding efficiency as the ratio between the


maximum static load supported and the bridge's own
weight.)
Transcendence of the project


The purpose of this contest is to verify the design and
construction used in the bridge, as well as the
materials and non-destructive and destructive tests
performed on elements that make up the bridge.
Bases

 model will have as weight limit 2 kg


 Total length in the road and in the supports will be 90
cm. (A)
 the separation between supports will be a minimum
of 60 cm. (B)
 the width will be 15 cm. (C)
 the dimensions of the supports should not be greater
than a square of 15 cm x 15 cm (D x D)
 the height, at the center of the clearing will be at
least 20 cm. (E)
 The maximum total height will not be greater than 60
cm. (F)
 the bridge will only have supports at the ends.
 It is strictly forbidden to use any type of coating as a
paint, including the glue itself.
 The bridge must have an aspect and geometry that
identifies it as a structure of its type.
Materials

 The bridges to be contested will be built with


“tongue depressor of wood of pine", which will be
united with white glue type Resistol 850. It will be
able to be made any type of cut or manipulation of
the pieces of wood, as long as they do not come in
conflict with none of the bases and that is grounds
for disqualification.
Important notes

 The use of any other type of glue or piece of wood


other than those described above is strictly
prohibited.
 The confirmation by the jury of the use of a material
or materials other than those specified in this call will
be grounds for disqualification.
 will be at the discretion of the jury, the penalty or
disqualification of the model, in case of not fulfilling
any of the characteristics mentioned in the guidelines
stages of the contest

 stage 1.- The test consists of passing from one end to


another, on the bearing surface, a mobile load of 30
KG of weight at constant speed; this will confirm that
the structure complies with the main function of a
vehicular crossing bridge.
 The structure of the bridge during this first stage
should not present excessive deformations.
 the bars of the bridge structure must resist without
breaking or detaching from their nodes.
 the structures that comply with the aforementioned
points will pass to stage 2 of the contest.
 stage 2.- The bridge will be subjected to a
concentrated load, which will be distributed in an
area of 15x15 cm, by means of a steel plate. The load
will be located at the center of the length of the
bearing surface, increasing the load in a constant way,
considering two failure criteria:
a. When the failure of any element of the bridge,
except elements of the bearing surface.
b. when the level of vertical deformation to the center
of the bridge exceeds 3 cm.
