Warm Up Question

 Chemical bonds are the force that hold what together?

A. Molecules
B. Atoms
C. Neutrons
D. Protons
Chapter 2: Laws, Properties & Mols
Isotopes
are atoms of the same element, but with
different mass. They contain different
amounts of neutrons.
Parts to an
Element
Atomic # = # of protons = # of electrons
Mass # = # of protons + # of neutrons {To find
mass}
**(mass # – atomic # = # of neutrons) {To find
neutrons}
Bonds
3 Types of Bonds

Chemical Bonds Covalent Bonds Ionic Bonds

the force that holds atoms are when electrons are shared when electrons are transferred
together.
Writing formulas
for covalent
molecules
Your looking at the charge and will be
exchanging them over as if you were
doing addition or subtraction.
Stoichemistry

Calculate the average atomic mass of Ne.

(% as decimal) (mass) + (% as decimal) (mass) + (% as decimal) (mass) =
average atomic mass
Example
(0.9048) (19.9924 g) + (0.0027) ( 20.9938 g) + (0.0925) ( 21.9914 g) =
18.09 + 0.05668 + 2.034 = 20.18 g
** or 20.18 amu (atomic mass units)

 Professor X: Good Morning class, how you doin?

 Everybody (Simultaneously): We doing well. How are you doing?
 Professor X: Oh it’s Friday; which is a good thing. Mean poker night. Okay, enough of
that. I got a class to teach. Today is going to be a work day.
 Antonio Baeza: Work day! What?!
 Professor X: Yeah. That’s the words that came out my mouth.
 Antonio Baeza: (Laughing) Oh my gosh
 Professor X: I know. Now getting down to business. You guys will being doing a project
that was based of the previous lecture that was on “Knowing How to use PowerPoint
2013”
Script Cont.

 Jesus Bajo: Wait. That’s what was our previous lecture was on?
 Raven Breshears: (Sarcastically) Yes! You were just glued to Facebook at
the time.
 Professor X: Really. Really Jesus. I’ll get to you later. As I was saying---
 Jasmine Castaneda: Sorry to interrupt but will we be doing this project in
groups or individually?
 Professor X: I was just about to get to it, so give me 2 seconds and I will be
on top of that. Okay, no more interruptions real quick and Mrs. Cornielle,
will you please get off your phone?
 Tatum Cornielle: Yes and I’m sorry.
Script Cont.

 Professor X: This assignment is and individual assignment, but you can partner up
with one person. I don’t want see three, four, or your whole squad; just yourself or
two of you. We learned about how to use PowerPoint 2013 and had some practice.
You will now being making a short slideshow. When I say short, I don’t mean four to
five slides ladies and gentleman.
 Katherine Evans, Nina Dang, Victoria Dudding: (laughing) It was one time.
 Austin Cota, Andrew Coffaro, Prentice Clay: (Making eye contact) I don’t know
what you’re talking about professor.
 Professor X: (Grinning) Okay, alright. You must have at least eight slides that have
either four pictures, or videos or a combination. The title must be the core class you
will be presenting as your lecture and the unit. Obviously names included. Along
with the slideshow you will write a 300 word summary on the work progress you did
and what you had to do to complete this project.
Script Cont.

 Shayna Foster: Is there a specific format you want the summary in?
 Professor X: Good question. The format you will be writing in is MLA format.
 Logan Fowler: Bruh!
 Aaliyah Fajut: What!
 Taylor Hughes: Awesome.
 Sarah Lamay :( Laughing) Really Taylor?
 Austin Kobar: And when is this due?
Script Cont.

 Professor X: I love how this class is one of the few who speak much, but when you guys
got emotions rolling I’m thinking who’s class is this? Also, Austin this assignment will be
due October 24, 2016. Before you guys get your in class time; I will show you a sample
that I will do now to show you some of the features in case you forgot.
 Isabel Mena Hernandez: Yes please.
 Professor X: Okay. For starters, when you make your title page, it’s best to go to the
layout tab that’s under formats or if you right click the slide it gives you the option too.
Using layouts will prove to be easy since everything is formatted and neat instead of
everything looking weird. As I said earlier, you will put the title, which I’m going to put as
“Computer Application & Business”. In the subtitle you will put your name(s) and the unit
you will be presenting. You can add backgrounds or animations to make it look nice. If
you wanted to add a background go to the tab insert and there will be a icon that says
background. You could display backgrounds that are already on your computer or like
what I’m doing now; I went to a web search and got to pick the picture I wanted. It’s
fine if you put notes from the class on your PowerPoint, but if you got the notes from
online then you have to paraphrase it. Be creative in your work, since you’re able to add
video from youtube through the hyperlink icon that’s under insert. Add cover pages and
media too that are also under the insert tab.

 Bell Goes Off

 Professor X: Well that’s the end of class.
 Austin Kobar: See later professor x.
 Professor X: Adios.
