THESIS WRITING
 6 units
 Good for two consecutive semesters and one summer
 Any student enrolled in thesis writing may apply for official
leave of absence for a period of one semester upon approval of
the adviser and program chairperson.
 The term when the student is on leave will not be counted as
part of the one year/two year enrollment in thesis writing.
 Forms of leave of absence may be secured from the MCGSC
office.

STAGE 1 – TITLE DEFENSE


STAGE 2 – PROPOSAL DEFENSE

STAGE 3 – FINAL DEFENSE


TITLE DEFENSE
 1. GS submits 4 copies of his/her concept paper to
MCGSC.
 2. MCGSC Chairperson evaluates the concept paper. (1
week)
 3. MCGSC Chairperson assigns specialists who will be
part of the panel of experts in the title defense.
 4. MCGSC schedules the title defense with 3 specialists.
 5. MCGSC notifies the graduate student at least 3 days
prior to the exact date of the title defense. (email)
CONCEPT PAPER FORMAT

 GS consults with the Thesis adviser
 GS writes the thesis proposal (Chap 1 and 2)
 GS submits the thesis proposal to the adviser.
 Adviser checks the thesis proposal.
 GS revises the thesis proposal based on the comments of the
adviser.
 GS submits the revised paper to the adviser
 Adviser checks the revised paper.
 Adviser issues clearance for proposal defense.
STAGE 2 – BEFORE THE PROPOSAL DEFENSE

 GS submits 4 copies of his/her thesis proposal to the


MCGSC. (Chapter 1 and 2)
 MCGSC schedules the proposal defense.
 MCGSC notifies the graduate student at least 3 days
prior to the exact date of the proposal defense. (email)

INSTRUMENT VALIDATION PROCESS

 GS secures thesis services availment form for instrument


validation from the MCGSC.
 GS avails the services of 3 validators. (upon consultation
with the adviser)

INSTRUMENT VALIDATION PROCESS
 GS obtains the comments and suggestions of the
validators. Validators should affix their signature to the
instrument.
 GS revises the items in the instruments based on the
suggestions of the validators.
 GS consults with the thesis adviser.
 Adviser checks the revised instrument.
 Adviser issues clearance for data gathering.
STAGE 3 – BEFORE FINAL DEFENSE
 GS consults with the adviser.
 GS writes chapter 3 and 4.
 GS submits paper to the adviser.
 Adviser checks the paper.
 GS revises the paper based on the comments of the adviser.
 GS submits revised paper to the adviser.
 Adviser checks the revised paper.
 Adviser issues clearance for final defense.
STAGE 3 – BEFORE THE FINAL DEFENSE

 GS submits 4 copies of his/her thesis (Chapter 1-


4) to the MCGSC.
 MCGSC schedules the final defense.
 MCGSC notifies the graduate student at least 3
days prior to the exact date of the final defense.

form (signed by the adviser and panelist) to
the MCGSC.
GS secures thesis services availment form
(APA/Format/Layout and Style; Proofreading)
at the MCGSC.
GS avails services of the APA/Format stylist
and proofreader.
GS retrieves paper from APA/Format stylist
and proofreader. (after one week)
STAGE 3 – AFTER FINAL DEFENSE
 GS obtains comments from the APA/Format stylists and proof reader.
 GS revises the Masteral Thesis based on the comments of the stylists and
proof readers.
 GS submits revised Masteral Thesis to the adviser.
 Adviser checks the revised Masteral Thesis.
 Adviser issues clearance for binding.
 GS proceeds to the designated binding office.
 GS submits two hardbound copies and (1) CD of Masteral Thesis to the
Department.
IMPORTANT REMINDER

 Give advisers, panelists, validators, stylists and


proofreaders at least one week to review the paper.
