Barriers to effective communication

• Expectations and prejudices which may lead to false


assumptions or stereotyping
• Lack of attention, interest, distractions, or irrelevance
to the receiver
• Differences in perception and viewpoint
• Noises:
– Physical disabilities:-
• hearing problems , speech difficulties
– Physiological
– Psychological
• Language differences and the difficulty in
understanding unfamiliar accents
• Cultural differences
Ways to overcome the barriers
• Speakers and listeners should lower down their
egoness while listening
• Listeners can practice active listening-listening to
the main points and leave out unnecessary
examples
• People with physical noises such as deaf or
hearing impairments should wear hearing aids
• If the listeners do not understand the language
spoken, they should request the speaker to speak
their common language or having a translator
beside them.

1. Understand the needs of your audience
2. Have Clarity In Your Thoughts
3. Reduce the level of noise as far as possible
4. Have a Feedback from the receiver
