CAB-O-SIL Properties

 Small Particle Size & High Surface Area

 Active Surface Chemistry & Unique Particle Morphology
 Zero Nutrition Value & Low Moisture Content
 High Purity & Low Trace Element Content
 Amorphous Structure.
 Chemically inert, Odourless and refractive index is 1.46.

4/22/18 / PRESENTATION TITLE / CONFIDENTIAL / NOT FOR REDISTRIBUTION 15

Rheological Aid
 The highly dispersed CAB-O-SIL
fumed silica particles form a
three- dimensional network in
liquid systems through hydrogen
bonding of hydroxyl groups. This
network formation (occlusion of
liquid by particle) causes an
increase in viscosity of the system
 Fumed silica desired end result is
depends on silica dispersion
condition.

Free Flow Aid

 TANNING CHEMICAL POWDERS

 Some of the re-tanning chemicals

used in leather industries is in
powdered form.
 This will be produced by spray
drying method.
 Ex. Melamine resin syntan.
 Fumed silica will be working as
free flow and anti caking aid in
tanning chemicals.

Super hydrophobic Coating
 Super hydrophobic is extreme water repellence and non wettability of the
surface
 On a super hydrophobic surfaces water or any other liquid forms spherical
droplets and glide down the surface
 Concept of super hydrophobic coating is originated from lotus leaf.

CAB-O-SIL in Super hydrophobic Coatings
 Process of making super hydrophobic coating
 STEP 1: Disperse calculated quantity of CAB-O-SIL TS-720 in ethanol to make
solution with 48m/ml of silica concentration .
 STEP 2 : Take 581.46 ml of silica-ethanol dispersion and load 23.26 gm of
Polyisobutylmethacrylate resin and mix well. This solution is called as ‘Polymeric
solution’.
 STEP 3 : Take 30 ml of polymeric solution and add 55.5mg of anthraquinone
catalyst and mix well. This solution is called as ‘bath liquid’.
 STEP 4: Immerse the substrate want to coat into bath solution for 30 sec.
 STEP 5 : Allow air drying for 5 mins followed by UV curing for 5 mins.
 Simple way for making super hydrophobic coating.
 STEP 1 : Disperse 2 gm of TS720 in 98 gm of Isopropanol.
 STEP 2 : Load 0.8gm of silicone oil (Hexamethlenedisilazane) and mix well.
 STEP 3 : Coat the prepared solution on substrate and air dry for 10 Mins.
