Roll no. 54
We must have observed that in nature many
things follow a certain pattern, such as the
petals of a sunflower, the holes of a honey
comb, the grains on a maize cob, the spirals on
a pineapple and on a pine cone.
1. 2,4,6,8
2. 10,20,30,40
3. 1,2,3,4,5,……
4. 45,43,41,39,37,3,33,31,…..
5. 12,22,32,42,……

Each of the numbers in the list is called a term.

 Successive terms are obtained by adding a
fixed number to the proceeding terms. Such
list of numbers is said to form an Arithmetic
Progression (AP).
 The fixed number is called common
difference(d).
 First term a1, second term a2, ……nth term by
an . Now the AP becomes a1,a2,a3,….,an
 a2-a1 = a3-a2 =…..= an-an-1 = d

General form of AP

a, a+d,a+2d, a+3d,….
Finite AP
2,4,6,8
10,20,30,40; No. of classmates in our classroom.

Infinite AP

1,2,3,4,5,……
45,43,41,39,37,3,33,31,…..
12,22,32,42,……
1. For the AP:
Write the first term a and the common
difference d.
2. Find the next two terms 4,10,16,22,….
3. Find first four terms of AP a=10, d=10
