Metamorphic
Igneous rock

• Is formed when magma cools and solidifies


• This can happen below the earth’s surface, or above
the surface
• There are over 700 different types of igneous rocks
• The upper section of Earth’s crust is made up of around
95% igneous rock
Sedimentary rock

• Formed by sediment that is deposited over time, usually


from the layers at the bottom of lakes and oceans
• The sediment is compressed over a long period of time
before consolidating into solid rock layers
• Stata can form, which are the layers that we see when we
look at sedimentary rock
• Sedimentary rock makes up most of Earth’s rocky surface
Metamorphic rock

• Rocks that have been changed over time due to


extreme pressure and heat
• Can be formed under Earth’s surface from
extreme heat from magma or the collisions of the
tectonic plates
• Erosion brings metamorphic rocks to the surface
