Job Description
Unit Supervisor
• Accomplishes nursing human resource objectives by selecting,
orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and
disciplining employees of the cancer unit.
• Communicating job expectations
• Planning, monitoring, appraising job contributions
• Adhering to policies and procedures of cancer unit
• Meets nursing operational standards by contributing information to
strategic plans and reviews
• Implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service
standards
• Resolving problems
• Identifying system improvements
• Meets nursing financial standards by providing annual budget
information
• Monitoring expenditures
• Identifying variances
• Implementing corrective actions
• Identifies patients service requirements establishing personal
rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a

verifying emergency equipment availability

PRIVATE ROOM
Head Nurse
• Responsible for the direction, organization, and strategic planning of
the oncology unit – private room.
• Plan the staffing budget and recruitment.
• Ensure that nursing care meets regulatory standards.
• Review and approve nursing policies and procedures.
• Evaluate nursing staff performance in private room.
• Collaborate with nursing staff, upper management and external
agencies in the coordination of patient care.
• Train nursing management staff and coordinate educational
programs for patients and their families.
• Facilitate meetings with medical staff from other departments.
• Ensure that nursing care medical services are meeting patient
needs.
• Implement quality assurance systems.
• Develop new patient care programs.
Charge Nurse
• Is responsible for overseeing the cancer unit – private nurse for their
assigned shift.
• Delegating nursing assignments.
• Preparing schedules for staff.
• Overseeing admissions and discharges.
• Monitoring and ordering medicines and supplies.
Staff Nurse
• Review the patient’s health history.
• Assess and monitor the physical and emotional status of the patient.
• Keep track of the patients laboratory, pathology and imaging
studies.
• Safely administer medications, fluids and cancer treatments.
• Collaborate with the doctor and other clinicians about the patients
treatment.
• Help patient understand the disease, treatment plan and possible
side effects.
• Help translate complex medical terminology and answer questions.
• Help patient plan for and manage symptoms throughout treatment.
Nurse Assistant
• Is to provide basic care to patients, as well as assist them in daily
activities they might have trouble with on their own such as bathing.
• Report to either registered nurses.
• Bath and dress patients.
• Serve meals and help patients eat.
• Take vital signs.
• Turn or reposition patients who are bedridden.
• Collect information about conditions and treatment plans from
caregivers, nurses and doctors.
• Provide an empty bedpans.
• Lift patients into beds, wheelchairs, exam tables, etc.
• Answer patient calls.
• Examine patients for bruises, blood in urine or other injuries/wounds.
• Clean and sanitize patient areas.
• Change bed sheets and restock rooms with necessary supplies.
Outpatient Department
Head Nurse
• Is responsible for organizing the flow and strategic planning of the
whole outpatient department
• Plan the staffing budget and recruitment
• Ensure that nursing care meets regulatory standards.
• Review and approve nursing policies and procedures.
• Evaluate nursing staff performance.
• Collaborate with nursing staff, upper management and external
agencies in the coordination of patient care.
• Coordinate for nursing staff trainings.
• Ensure that nursing care medical services are meeting patient
needs.
• Implement quality assurance systems.
Charge Nurse
• is responsible for overseeing the cancer
unit for their assigned shift.
• Delegating nursing assignments to the
staff nurses.
• Overseeing admissions and discharges.
• Monitoring medicines and supplies.
Staff Nurse
• Overall care of patients seeking treatment at the outpatient cancer
unit.
• Assess and monitor the physical and emotional status of the patient.
• Review the patient’s health history.
• Assist during the chemotherapy, brachytherapy, radiotherapy and
other medical procedures within the shift.
• Ensure the comfort of the patients before, during and after medical
procedures.
• Keep track of the patient’s laboratory, pathology and imaging
studies.
• Safely administer medications, fluids and cancer treatments.
• Collaborate with the doctor and other clinicians about the patient’s
treatment.
• Help patient understand the disease, treatment plan and possible
side effects.
• Help translate complex medical terminology and answer questions.
Nursing Assistant
• Take vital signs and monitor intake and output
• Provide basic care to patients and ensure comfort
• Report abnormalities to registered nurses.
• Turning and repositioning clients every 2 hours
• Lift patients into beds, wheelchairs, exam tables, etc.
• Clean and sanitize patient areas.
• Change bed sheets and restock rooms with necessary supplies.
CANCER UNIT RULES AND
REGULATIONS
ADMISSION
Patient will be requested:
• To present doctor’s order sheet. For walk-in patients, the ER
physicians will make an admitting order after taking patient’s history
& physical examination.
• To give personal data needed by physician and SCMC
• To select the type of accommodation that patient’s want.
• To sign forms of consent for hospital care and acceptance of
financial responsibility & exclusive supply of medicines and waiver
regarding loss of valuables.
• To wear I.D. band within SCMC premises.
DISCHARGE

• Assigned charge nurse shall advice patient regarding the said order.
• Cut-off time for MGH (May-Go-Home) is at 1:00pm. Additional one
(1) day will be charged if MGH is issued and processed beyond
1:00pm.
• Patient shall be given the Patient's Bill Claim Slip ( with time
indicated therein) which you will present to the Accounts
Management Section (AMS) in order to get the final Statement of
Account (S/A). You need not go to AMS to follow up on the
computation of the bill.
• Patient may stay in the room until the time indicated in the Patient's
Bill Claim Slip. Beyond that, additional one (1) day will be charged.
At the time indicated, patient is then requested to:
• Go to the designated AMS window. Please check bills before
paying. Our AMS personnel will be more than willing to
accommodate queries regarding billing concerns.
• Settle accounts with our Cashier. The Cashier will give official
receipt together with the original and duplicate copies of the
Patient's Clearance Form. Indicated in the clearance is the time for
the patient to vacate room.
• Give the original copy of the clearance to the nurse on duty who will
then give patient home medications and discharge instructions.
• Wait for orderly to escort as patient leave the hospital. Prior to
discharge, we ask for patient’s kind patience while the nursing aide /
nurse checks the room.
• Surrender the duplicate copy of the clearance to the guard.
REFERRALS

• All new patients shall be registered in patient register area.


• Follow up patients shall be registered in the follow-up continuation
sheet upon arrival.
• All patients who are referred shall have their available information
recorded in the referral and death register.
PROVISION MEDICAL RECORD

• Patients and clinic’s staffs shall be made aware of the strict confidentiality of the
medical records and information contained in them.
• No staff should divulge any information to any third party
• All patient information shall be strictly private and confidential
• Each patient will have individual medical record.
• Medical records are kept according to the legal requirement of record keeping of the
country. A record can be moved to a deceased file once the clinic has the legally valid
evidence of the patient’s death.
• The person in-charge is responsible to review records in the clinic periodically for
quality control.
• It is the responsibility of the holder of certificate or person in charge to comply with
DG directives with regards to preservation of patient’s medical record when he
intends to cease operation.
• The healthcare professional that had provided any health care to a patient shall be
allowed to access or inspect patient’s medical record for defense in any civil action
brought against him.
Visitors Policy

• Visitors are allowed with the permission of the patient.


• Patient visitors should visit the main lobby information
desk receptionist for patient information.
• At any time a patient may request to limit or restrict
visitors
• These requests must be communicated to the patient’s
care team members
• Visiting time is only from 8AM to 8PM
PATIENTS’ RIGHTS

Patients has the right to be:


• Informed the estimated services charges prior of care or treatment.
• - Provided with information of the nature of his medical condition,
any proposed treatment, investigation or procedure and related
charges of the processes that might take place before the patient
gives consent.
• - Treated decently.
• - Request for referral to other healthcare facilities at any time they
wish.
• - Be given the medical report within reasonable time upon patient’s
request and payment of a reasonable fee.
• - Make any complaints or suggestions to the clinic or relevant
agencies
