"We do not inherit the earth from
our ancestors, we borrow it from
our children."
 In U.S power generation emits nearly 10 billion tons of
CO2per year. The U.S with over 8,000 power plants out
of the more than 50,000 worldwide, accounts for about
25 percent of that total or 2.8 billion tons of CO2
produced.

 Australians are some of the largest CO2 emitters in the

world, producing more than 11 tons of power sector
CO2 emissions per person every year.

SOLAR
ENERGY
 SOLAR CONCENTRATORS

 PHOTO VOLTAIC
 Solar Concentrator is the cheapest source to utilize
solar energy for our daily use like power generation,
heating water, drying food items etc. Solar
concentrator uses mirror to reflect light to a fixed
point or focal point, where a receiver receives it,
generates steam and produce electricity.

 Other being photo voltaic technology which converts

solar energy directly into electrical energy but this
technology is very expensive.
 Solar Power Tower

 Solar Parabolic Trough

 Solar Parabolic Dish

 Fresnel Mirrors or Plane Mirrors

 Field of distributed mirrors (heliostats) use to concentrate
lights
 They concentrate light to a central receiver at the top of
tower
 Heat is absorbed by a heat transferring fluid (HTF)
 Here HTF IS a salt.
 They produce steam which run conventional steam
turbines.
 They can achieve temperature up to 800 to 1000 ̊C
 World largest tower in Spain can produce temperature
from 550 to 1500 ̊C
 Working principal is similar to solar power tower

 Difference is that instead of central tower small tubes

are used placed at the focal point of mirror.

 HTF is present in the tubes and is fluid in this case

 It varies from range of 14 MW to 80 MW

 In this technique HTF is heated to about 750 ̊C

 This HTF then operates a Stirling Engine or Brayton

Cycle Engine.

 It is more efficient than other techniques

 It can reach to a temperature of 1000 ̊C

 Fresnel Mirrors are similar to parabolic troughs in

working principle

 Difference lies in shape of the mirrors used

 Fresnel mirrors are plain straight mirrors where as

parabolic troughs are curved parabolic shapes

 For a greener tomorrow it is necessary to divert from
conventional to renewable

 The faster we change more our planet will survive and

our new generation will enjoy.
