Optimising with Asset Vs Advantage
ASSET
▪ First Simulate the performance of the network and Analyse.
▪ Our Target is improve coverage (-75dBm for 95% of a given Polygon)
▪ Our Action method is change of Azimuth to capture more area
▪ We analyse before and after the change and decide whether or not to
implement the change

ADVANTAGE
▪ Set same thresholds, Area and Criteria (what to change, how to analyse)
and run the Optimiser
▪ Iterative loop Changing, Analysing and Deciding w/out manual intervention
▪ For all given attributes automatically try diff settings, diff permutations and
presents the results

Conclusion
▪ Saves Time, Effort and Better Result

Introduction to ADVANTAGE

• Automatic optimisation Tool utilising state-of-the-art adaptation of ASA (Adaptive

Simulated Annealing) Optimisation algorithm

• ADVANTAGE assists you in identifying problem areas and problem cells using real
network data or from predictions

• Optimisation changes are evaluated on Budget, Manpower and Performance

indicators

• ADVANTAGE uses real life constraints combined with real network statistics

• Utilises drive test data where available for optimisation

Concepts of Optimisation in ADVANTAGE

• Optimiser Workflow
It enables configuration of an automatic optimisation through a single
dialog that contains the majority of the inputs to consider

• Plan Definition
The explicit concept of a network plan that can be associated with
optimisation actions/constraints, saved in the database and shared
amongst users.

• Optimisation Actions/Constraints
The tabular definition/editing of optimisation actions/constraints with extensive
(visualisation, copy-paste, etc) capabilities.

Optimiser Workflow

Launch the Optimiser Workflow

Use the toolbar shortcut Icon or the menu option

The Plan Manager

• Displays Plans Created

• Provides three Viewing Options

• Optimiser need at least one created Plan to optimise

• Optimiser creates Delta Plans during optimisation

• Delta Plans are parented to a Plan

Plan Manager

• Type of Plans Listed

• Viewing Options in the Workflow and in Map View

Plans and Delta Plans

• Optimisation creates Delta Plans

• Delta Plans are parented to a Plan, which they represent changes to
the starting Plan.

Creating a New Plan

• Using Workflow Window

• Using ADVANTAGE Main Toolbar

Setting Up the Details for the Plan

• Plan Details specify the Vectors for analysis, Terminal types, and set the
array-based options and parameters.
• From Plan Manager select

Action-Constraints

• Allow network parameter changes to be considered in a optimisation

• Impose meaningful limitations and restrictions on those changes

• Two separate 'sources' of action-constraints:

o A-C within the Optimiser Workflow
o A-C within the Site Database
o Some are exclusive to the Site Database (Grid and Site Configurations)

• Three planning mechanisms to apply Action Constraints:

o Antenna
o Power
o Grid

Action Constraints Dialog Box
Action-constraints that are set in the Site Database are always auto-populated into the
Actions-Constraints dialog box when you create a Plan.

Editing the Constraints

• Blue columns cannot be edited.

• Green columns can be edited.

• Can Edit each object on a manual basis.

• Assigning Action-Constraints Templates:

 Manually assign Templates to Objects

 Assign Templates to a Filter

 Re-assigning Templates to objects or Filter

Template Examples

Example 1: Mech Tilt : -4 to 8, and Total tilts -4 to 12.

Current Electrical Tilt Current Mechanical Tilt Current Total Tilt Allowed to Change ?

16 -4 12

6 0 6

11 -5 6

6 8 14

0 -4 -4

Example 2: Mech Tilt => min=0, max=6, step=2

Key Points in Template Assignment

• Read Only Template

when assigned, all the 'Fixed' checkboxes become automatically selected
in the Action-Constraints dialog box.

• Leave Unchanged Template

When assigned, nothing is changed in the Action-Constraints dialog box.

• Normal Template
When assigned, the 'Fixed' checkboxes for the action-constraints that
were not selected in the template become automatically selected in the
Action-Constraints dialog box.

Prerequisites for Running Optimiser
1. Set up a project with the necessary planning data and Traffic

2. Define the Clutter/Vector Parameters.

3. Specify the Performance Metrics/Targets.

4. Define object/action-related costs, under Costs/Risks/Limits.

5. Create a Plan under the Plan manager.

6. Define Details under the Plan manager.

7. Configure the Actions-Constraints in the Plan manager.

8. Define the Strategy.

9. Define the Settings.

10. Create / Load traffic arrays for traffic-based optimisations.

Clutter/Vector Parameters
• Specify the Required RF Performance Thresholds
• Define Values that characterize the Radio Interface and Environment
• From the Optimiser Workflow select Clutter/Vector Parameters.

Indoor Loss Considerations

Example :

Indoor %=20, Indoor Loss=15, SS threshold= -85, P = Probability of Coverage

▪ If NO Indoor Considerations => P ( x> -85dBm )

▪ With Indoor Consideration => 20% P (x>(-85+15))+80% P (x>-85)
