“The Accord”- Roller

Coaster
By: Aaron Gonzalez, Javier Arreola,
and Moises Roman
Goal

Our goal was construct a roller coaster for marbles. The only requirements were
to have two or more loops and have them at least 12 in. diameters.
Materials We used:

Used ● Orange pool noodles(4 ft. each)

● Skewer Sticks
● Utility knife
● Tape
● Cardboard
● Hot glue gun
● Ruler
● Construction paper
● Toy cars

Key Vocabulary

● Potential energy - is the energy ● Gravity - the force of attraction between all

position relative to other objects, stresses attraction of the earth's mass for bodies near

● Velocity - of an object is the rate of change of

● Kinetic energy - that a body possesses by
reference, and is a function of time.
virtue of being in motion.
● Friction - the force resisting the relative
● Conservation of energy - the total energy

of an isolated system in a given frame of material elements sliding against each other

Steps of the Making

1) First, we build up ideas on how we wanted to make our

coaster
2) Next, we went to by our supplies for the construction
3) We started constructing the frames for the coaster
4) Then we taped the pool noodles together
5) Then started making the loops by twisting the pool
noodles
(Continued)

6) Once we made the first loop we moved on to the second

loop

7) Once we made the 2nd loop we decided to start our 10

trails and finished with decorating

Scientific facts

● Goes at a speed of 7.3 ft/sec

● Its average time for the marble to travel
through the coaster is 1.6s
Facts of “The Accord”

● It is 11.8 ft(141.6 in) long

● 3.3 ft(39 ⅝ in) tall
● Surprisingly very stable despite its appearance
● Took around 15 hrs to complete
● Every trial that was done didn’t fail
● The Accord sign came from Javier’s mom’s car
Problems we went through

● We didn't know where to start

● We had problems to make the right size of our loops(12 in.)
● The way we were suppose to make the 2nd loop
● What time we were going to work on the project

SLOs

● Investigate the world:We investigated the world by looking up to the world of

physics and how kinetic energy and conservation of energy work.
● Recognize Perspectives:We recognized perspectives by finding the way an
architect thinks of making structures and plans out things.
● Communicate Ideas:We communicated ideas by talking to one another in
our groups and sharing our different ideas and the outcome of “The Accord”
● Take Action:We took action by constructing our roller coaster and testing
ways in order for it to work, also by creating the PowerPoint, and the data we
got in our coaster.
