INTRODUCTION
• Beam tracking robot is a mobile machine which
is capable of detecting and following the light
source on the travelling path.

• A user can shine a flashlight at its front or back

and it will respond by following the light source.

• This robot uses a microcontroller for processing

the sensor readings.
FEATURES
Common features required for Beam tracking robot:

• Follows a light beam.

• Stop if the beam disappears.

• Stop if an obstacle is present.

• Do not fall off the edge of the table.

HARDWARE REQUIRED

• AVR trainer board with ATmega16

• AVR USB programmer

• Analog light sensor

• DC Motor driver

• LDRs

• Resistors

• Robot

• 1 to 1 connector-female to female
SOFTWARE REQUIRED
• AVR Studio 4 software

• WinAVR 2010 Software

• Proteus
ATmega16 PIN DESCRIPTION
CONCEPT

• It includes two LDR sensors, one in the front and other

on the back.

• When Light incident on LDR, Resistance of LDR

changes.

• When the light falls on the front LDR sensor, the robot
will move in the forward direction.

• Similarly, the robot will move in the backward

direction when the light falls on the back LDR sensor.
ADVANTAGES
• Robot movement is automatic.

• Used for long distance applications.

• Defence applications.

• Used in home, industrial automation.

• Cost effective.
DISADVANTAGES
• BTR are simple robots with an additional sensors
placed on them.

• Needs a light beam to run.

• Slow speed and instability on different hard

angles.
APPLICATIONS
• Guidance system for industrial robots moving on shop
floor etc.

• Industrial applications.

• Home applications.

• Domestic applications(Floor cleaning).

BASIC IDEA

• Smarter versions of light beams are used to

deliver mails within office building and deliver
medications in a hospital.

• This technology has been suggested for running

buses and other mass transit systems and may
end up as a part of autonomous cars navigating
the freeway.
STATUS
• WORKDONE

Literary work done.

Implementation of LED using Atmega16.

• WORK IN PROCESS

Implementation of motor driver IC(L293D).
