 Alcoholism “Alcoholism is a disease characterized by the
habitual intake of alcohol. The definition of alcoholism is
chronic alcohol use to the degree that it interferes with
physical or mental health, or with normal social or work
behavior”
 According to the National Institute of Health (NIH), in
2015, 15.1 million American adults (6.2 percent of the
population) had an alcohol use problem.

 According to the World Health Organization (WHO),

globally,"3.3 million deaths every year result from harmful
use of alcohol."
1.Adaptation – If you find yourself using alcohol as a means of escape
from stress or difficult feelings, you’ve crossed that first line.

2.Dependence – This stage happens when you start to plan your day
around drinking. You also drink earlier in the day to prepare for
difficult tasks or experiences.

3.Progression – Occurs when you may start to experience loss of

control. You’ll forget social events or miss work or school. If you try to
stop drinking now, the withdrawal symptoms will start to creep in.

4.Conclusion – The conclusion of these stages is a full loss of control

over your drinking habits. If you try to stop, withdrawal symptoms will
set in immediately and come on strong. At this point, you are fully
addicted.
