•Air
•Oxygen
•Relative Humidity
•Temperature
Air Quality
Oxygen(O2) more than 19.6%
Carbon Dioxide(CO2)less than 0.3%
Carbon Monoxide(CO) less than 10 PPM
Ammonia(NH3)less than 10 PPM
Dust less than 3.4 mg/m3
Relative humidity (RH) 45-65%
Important Parameters
1. Volume of the house(m3or ft3)
2. Cubic feet per minute(CFM)
3. Speed of air(m/s)
4. Cross section of the building=w x h(m2)
5. Temperature(⁰C or ⁰F)
6. Relative humidity(%)
Factors to achieve high yield
1. Total environmental control
(ventilation)
2. Hatchery to supply quality chick
(ventilation)
3. Right stocking density
(ventilation)
4. Management at farm
(ventilation)
5. Good quality air (volume) in the house
(ventilation)
6. Vaccination and health program
7. Availability of clean and cool water
8. To fulfill feed requirements
9. Uniform light intensity
Ventilations types
1. Natural Ventilation:
Only Minimum ventilation is available but no
mechanical vent.
1. Minimum Ventilation:
Low air velocity but long air exchange during
brooding and cold weather.
1. Transition Ventilation:
Low air velocity, better air exchange rate.
1. Summer Ventilation:
Temperature control, high air speed to reduce
effective temperature.
Important factors we must know
1. Cubic volume of air to be handled
2. Number of fans required
3. Air inlet area must match with total fan
capacity
4. Air speed along the house
5. Relative humidity
6. Evaporative cooling
7. Condensation
Volume of air in a house
Length x Width x Average height
Example:
Length = 328 feet
Width = 46 feet
Average height =
= = 10 feet

Volume = 328 x 46 x 10 = 150,880 feet3

Number of fans required

Air inlet area
Total CFM of the fans standard CFM per
square feet / Minute of 6 inch Pads
Note:
For 6 inch cool pads (45⁰ x 45⁰ or 30⁰ x 30⁰)
400 CFM per 1 ft2

Air speed/air exchange
During brooding there is no need of air speed
across the birds but proper air exchange is a
must

After brooding the air speed across the birds

to be 1.5 m/s to 2.5 m/s
Air baffels
Air baffels
Air baffels can be installed to reduce cross
section of the house and to increase air velocity
along the house.
Relative Humidity (RH)
RH is the amount of moisture in the air
compared to the maximum amount of
moisture the air can hold relative to the
dry bulb temperature.
Evaporative cooling
The process of evaporation happens all the
time. Our bodies, for example, secrete
fluid from the sweat glands through the
pores of the skin , sweat dries and drops
our body temperature.
Whenever dry air passes over water, some
of the water will be absorbed by the air.
That's why evaporative cooling naturally
occurs near waterfalls, at rivers, lakes and
oceans,
Evaporative cooling continued
The hotter and drier the air, the more water
can be absorbed. This happens because the
temperature and the vapor pressure of the
water and the air attempt to equalize. Liquid
water molecules become gas in the dry air, a
process that uses energy to change the
physical state. Heat moves from the higher
temperature of the air to the lower
temperature of water. As a result, the air is
cooler. Eventually the air becomes saturated,
unable to hold more water, and evaporation
ceases
Condensation
When temperature and the relative
humidity in the house gets too close
together, dew point is reached. As a result
condensation is formed.
Can be seen on; walls, windows, doors,
equipment and also on the floor, which is
one of the reason of wet floor.
Ventilation System?
1. To ensure good air quality 24/7 during the
flock cycle.
2. To remove gasses from the house through
calculated air exchange.
3. To provide air as per the demand of the
birds.
4. To control relative humidity.

Increase overall production

Ventilation system priorities?
1. No air leaks in the house, house must be as
airtight as possible
2. No air leaks around exhaust fans and cool
pads
3. Proper air exchange rate (cycle timer)
4. Direction of air entering the house
5. Proper heating and cooling system; radiant or
space heating, evaporative cooling
6. Settings of controller
7. Operate all the fans before pump starts
8. Fan shutter to open and close easily
9. Fan belt should have right tension
10.RPM of fan motor to be measured
Typical house design
Air Mixing
Recirculation Fans
Maintenance of evaporative cooling
1. To make sure pads are installed in the right
direction
2. Clean the cooling system on regular
intervals
3. Wash the system with low pressure water
in the direction of flutes
4. Installation of purge system is a must, to
be used at least once in a week
5. Protect water tank from direct sunlight
Blocked cool pad(dust)
Treatment of cool pad
Salt Removal
Ready to use after treatment
