EXPLORATORY BASED LEARNING
• Exploratory learning is based on constructivist theories of
learning and teaching. Some exploratory approaches are
discovery learning and inquiry-based learning

• Features of exploratory based learning are:

-learners takes control of their own learning
-knowledge is rich and multidimensional
-learners approach the learning task in very diverse ways
-learning feels natural and uncoaxed, not forced or
contrived.
-learners grow to be more imaginative, creative and critical

WHAT IS EXPLORATORY BASED LEARNING

• child-centered; not curriculum based

• focuses on knowledge construction; not knowledge reproduction
• one constructs knowledge from one's experiences
• the ideas and interests of children drive the learning process
• learning is active rather than passive. It is an active process in
which the student constructs meaning out of experiences
• children may need different experiences to advance to different
levels of understanding
• a focus on student-centered learning
• teachers are flexible; they are the facilitators
WHAT IS EXPLORATORY BASED LEARNING
• people learn to learn
• learning is a social activity
• learning is contextual
• everyone's view of the world differs because of their unique set of
experiences
• students construct new understandings based on what
they already know
• prior knowledge influences what new or modified knowledge they
will construct from new learning experiences
• the act of constructing meaning is mental
• learning is not the passive acceptance of knowledge it takes work
• Motivation is a major aspect of learning
• Teacher acts as a facilitator to scaffold learning (Zone of Proximal
Development)

One hot day in a forest, an ant was searching for some water. After
walking around for some time, she came to a spring. To reach the spring,
she had to climb up a blade of grass. While making her way up, she
slipped and fell into the water.

She could have drowned if a dove up a nearby tree had not seen her.
Seeing that the ant was in trouble, the dove quickly plucked off a leaf
and dropped it into the water near the struggling ant. The ant moved
towards the leaf and climbed up there. Soon it carried her safely to dry
ground. Just at that time, a hunter nearby was throwing out his net
towards the dove, hoping to trap it.

Guessing what he was about to do, the ant quickly bit him on the heel.
Feeling the pain, the hunter dropped his net. The dove was quick to fly
away to safety.

One good turn deserves another.

Baa baa black sheep,
Have you any wool?
Yes, Sir! Yes, Sir! Three bags full.
One for the master and one for the dame
And one for the little girl
who lives down the lane
